SceneMaster
Hi, What do people think for the Alesis RA 150 amp? I am looking at getting two to drive 4 JBL control 1 speakers as individual monitors. Firstly is this a suitable amp to do that job? The control 1s are 50watt RMS (I have seen 150watt on some of the descriptions but I am presuming this is peak, am I correct?) and are 4ohm. The RA 150 gives 75watt 4ohm output so I presume this will work? Secondly what is the performance like with the RA 150 in general, I am looking for a fairly cheap solution as I haven’t got a large budget but obviously I want a degree of quality. Alesis haven’t let me down yet. Out of interest what the connections for the Amp as I haven’t been able to find any manuals of pictures showing them on the net and it isn't in any descriptions Thanks in advance,

SeanT
Should be more than adequate for control 1s, they aren't that hungry - they however have no protection so make sure the amp does (ex user of a pair of control 1s and a rather smelly burned out phonic mixer amp that took the C1s with it!) SceneMaster
Thanks guys... helped me no end... Question do the Control 1s have any form of bracket on them as they are? I want to mount these onto a mic stand, you can get a MTC-7 which is a American mic stand bracket for the speakers but I can't find anywhere in the UK that sells them (probably because they are American standards) however I seem to remember some control 1s I rigged about a year ago having a small flat bracket on the back of them, is this standard or something which was an accessory? Thanks again,
SeanT
All the brackets are accessories afaik, I just made a right bodged bit of kit to attach one to a top hat :)
ampcats
MTC-6 is the european / japanese threaded mic stand mount - mtc-7 is the american threaded mic stand mount... remember these things weigh 2.4Kg - and are not very steady on mic stands with small / unweighted bases - use weighted bases - untrendy, but safer... dolphin music used to have them on the website according to google, but no longer -
SceneMaster
Been checking out Dolphin and couldn’t find anything despite what goggle used to say. As far as mic stands go I am using a short (ish) stands with short boom and a die-cast iron base which should be sturdy enough. Can you take the Control 1s apart? As one option could be to drill a whole and mount a mic stand adaptor to them with superglue allowing it to be screwed to the boom of the mic stand however I have reservations about this and how long the plastic casing will last however tough it is and careful people are with them. Sorry about all the questions about the Control 1s… it has been a year since I rigged some and apart from them sounding good all I an remember is a black plastic box with a bit of metal on the back! :( Any one know of a way to mount to a stand without the mic stand accessory which I seem unable to source easily within the UK? ampcats
There are quite a few makes of speakers with similar style cases - all of the ones that I have seen are heat welded together, the only way in is to remove a driver - limited access! I was thinking that maybe a call to dolphin might be useful - if they took them off the website, it might be due to them not selling well, and having a ceiling on the number of items available for sale at any one time... in other words, they might still be able to get them, but replaced them on the site with a better selling item... SceneMaster
Hey the control ones have arrived along with some banana plugs… however the banana plugs do not fit in the back connections which are standard type bear wire connection. I know they are meant to be able to accept “dual banana plugs” is this different to two individual plugs which certainly won’t fit in?
