Guest mattladkinlx
Hi there, Have recently been working at a venue constantly for the last 8 weeks on 6 different shows and have had to take 8 of the 18 Minuette F's out of service becase the lamp holders are "burning out". I am using the T26 650w lamp in them and they are all being run either paired or as a single channel on either a 10A BetaPak 2 dimmer or on a 10A Furse (yes I know Furse!) install pack made around 30 years ago. The rig is all 16A ceeform and all cables + connections are fine on the system! Is there any reason for the Minuette's to burn out and if so why? Also do you know where I can source a cheap replacement for the lamp holder? Many thanks Matt
Andrew C
Is there any reason for the Minuette's to burn out and if so why?'coz they do! I've experienced less trouble with lanterns run at 500W, but they do go. They are a bggr to replace unless you go to CCT and get the holder welded onto the carrier plate. WiLL
hmm, go for 500w in them. It could be, if they were all bought at the same time, all the used the same amount, that they are now all burning out at the same time. I believe in coincidences like that, they keep me sane. Stutwo
I've never ever seen a Minuette lamp holder burn out, but every one I ever used had a 500w bulb. I think that's the answer to your problem.
ampcats
Minuettes were designed for 500w (despite the '500/650' on the side of the later ones) and the increased heat / current gets to the bases quicker. but I used them at 650w for several years without much trouble... BUT... If you have one burning out, the bubble needs to be changed as well as the base, or that will destroy the new base too, due to the smaller contact area and arcing, and oxidising the contacts even more, giving less surface area, ... ad ruinum lampium againium.... - at least T27's are a lot cheaper than when I learnt that.. the theatre GM never liked to see me with a purchase pad in my hand!
