HOYS
For Altman Shakespeare lights, my theatre has numerous sockets/caps that are clogged with carbon from dying lights. It really gets annoying when you have to run and change the light in the middle of a blackout for a side torm and it dosnt work because the contacts dont meet. Is there any way to clean these out? We've tried little jewlers screwdrivers to scrape it out. No luck. It worked for one, but thats it. Any ideas? Solvents?
Neil Frazer
Sorry but it sounds like your lamp bases are arcing and burning out. Whilst you can try and clean out the debris this won't solve the problem of lamps not contacting any more as the contacts are literally disintegrating. If this is the case then the only real solution is to replace the lamp bases with new ones.
HOYS
I know they are TP-22 sockets, but Altman lists them for 26 dollars! Is there anyway to get them at a lower price?
Nicktaylor
I did a very quick Google and found this http://www.specialtyoptical.com/catalog/sy...p22_1785659.htm I dont know if it is the right socket so an email to the supplier would help you! By the way, it worries me that you are considering using solvents in a rush during a blackout......I suspect you aren't ! They are usually very flamable if not expolsive around hot things and if you have faulty lights with the potential for sparks etc, it could be very dangerous to you! HOYS
I didnt use any solvents, I just replaced the bulb. Didnt even try to scrape it out.
Nicktaylor
This is a problem I regularly have with my minuettes. Over time one of the sockets start to arc a bit which you dont see, and once it starts it gets worse and worse! This ofetn has the effect of eating through one of the lamp pins, so it is a false economy not to replace the socket!
WiLL
agreed, the only cure is a new socket, or stop using the lantern. Both of which will save you money on lamps :D
Jivemaster
Burned holders burn up the lamps so there is a major benefit in replacing them even say every 10 lamps
HOYS
Just a little update, I took some Brasso to the sockets and got them working just as good again! I used jewlers screwdrivers and Q-Tips.
