Potassium Neuf
No, the Phantom Frog does not generate DMX output. Further information on the Phantom Frog can be found HERE
Nicktaylor
It strikes me as obvious that the Phantom Frog does not generate DMX output! What would be the point of having a desk, if someone could use the software to do their programming and just plug in the packs on the end of the pc? Potassium Neuf
What strikes you as obvious is not necessarily obvious to others ... there's plenty of evidence of that in the posts and questions asked on our support forums
SimonH
What would be the point of having a desk, if someone could use the software to do their programming and just plug in the packs on the end of the pc? As has been rehashed many times in various guises both in this forum and elsewhere, you just can't beat the hands on nature and physical relilabilty of a dedicated hardware controller. Chamsys's MagicQ PC is a good case in point - it's free, and is exactly the same software that runs on their physical consoles. You can indeed plug a £20 DMX dongle in the back of your laptop and run a show on it if you choose. From their FAQ: "The MagicQ PC software is a great advertisement for our MagicQ consoles. We believe that there is no reason to charge for this software. A significant proportion of our sales are driven by people who have made use of MagicQ PC..." Rob the Spark
It would be nice however to have the option of getting out the laptop should the desk die mid show, or while the desk is away for servicing etc. I appreciate the problem of everyone downloading the software and having a desk for the cost of a £20 DMX adaptor, and think it is a perfectly reasonable to have no DMX output, but could some sort of a patch be supplied to users upon production of a proof of purchase of a console? As someone who owns a Fat Frog I would love to have this tucked away somewhere as an emergncy backup should the need to use it ever arise.
