corporatelady
Hi Everyone,This is an odd request to people that know!!I have been looking for 3 months for the style of uplighters seen at parties and events. They are in a white casing and just sit on the floor and plug in with a 13amp plug. It is a rectangle box and the uplighter par can inside. I have found where I can get the usual long or short nose par cans just not where I can get the casing or the complete set. Please, please can anyone tell me where I can purchase them, at this stage I do not care if they are second hand!!!Thanks for your time and help!! Many thanksCerixx

You can have an option to have an in and out cable so you can daisy-chain them. Good Luck. Rob

Guest lightnix
As mentioned in the post linked to by bruce, BR member Ian Ferguson of AC Lighting is possibly your most immediate source of help in these forums, if you are looking to buy. Although this subject has been covered before, it does raise another, very important question... How much capital (if any) do you want to pour into hire stock, which will immediately start to depreciate in value, need preparing, maintaining, PAT testing, storing, insuring, transporting and setting up etc., etc., etc...??? Having set up a small business myself (just over three years ago now), I can safely say that if I was going to do it again, one thing I would not do is spend quite so much on initial stock. I see from your profile, that you are just getting into the events business (best wishes for your venture, BTW :) ), by which I assume you mean at a production / organising level (?). If that's the case, then believe me: you really do not want to get involved in the minutiae of running equipment hire. To begin with, the margins simply aren't there, especially for the smaller operator. It will also take up much valuable time, which would be far better spent servicing existing clients and hunting for new ones ;) Swinging back on-topic for a moment... "Standard" PAR38 party uplighters can by hired by the truckload (or just individually) from most lighting companies, just add your standard markup to the invoice and hand it over to the client :o The same companies will also be able to provide you with any amount of other lighting equipment, from a simple spotlight on a stand, to a fully-automated Olympics-opening-ceremony-sized system. The same goes for Sound / PA, Video, Lasers, Staging, Rigging, Catering, Security, etc. Not only will you get the equipment you need, you will also get some jolly fine people, with the experience and expertise to make it happen smoothly and get you that oh-so-vital repeat business ;) Get yourself a copy of The White Book (available from Amazon here) and check out the suppliers and their websites. Phone the ones you like the look of and pop around for a visit. Also have a look at the Event Management UK Forum - some interesting discussions in there. corporatelady
Hi thanks for the email, I think I was not really that clear, I have not intention of entering the hire market with uplighter, to be fair there are many people that have the skills, stock and knowledge, they also have a wide variety of macs etc etc.I just wanted to purchase some uplighters for client events, as you are all aware, just placing a few makes a massive difference, I am not even going to charge some clients for them. It would just be a case of - ok, you have confirmed the event, we have themed the room, any money to spend on basic uplighters? If the client says no, I would throw them in anyway and it makes a difference to the overall look of an event. I would of course get the experts in to do the gobos and other forms of lighting and discos etc.I just think that in order to do well, if every event looks great and the planning is there, why not?? I will be calling AC on monday to obtain prices etc and really I would be looking for around 10, it is really small scale and I am not looking to make any money on them, if my parties look the part, that is my main concern. Looking at this website is very useful, I have seen some key people to contact for when I have jobs on and I will of course use the professionals for all jobs anyway!!Many thanks againCeri
johnhuson
As I posted in the thread, linked by Bruce, the most ubiquitous uplighters you see are from Essential Supplies though I believe AC also stock a similar product. As mentioned by other's above even if you are not effectively hiring them out as a dry hire you still need to consider the cost of maintainence, lamps & safety testing. Sorry for the repeated information but I figured as the mods haven't brought out the dancing padlocks yet this is a valid thread.....or maybe they're all just having a weekend off! Light Tricks
Hi, Thought I would restore some balance for all the AC Lighting drum banging that seems to be occurring!! (No offence AC....!!!) I've bought a specially made Thomas one from Lightfactor in Watford, it's an aluminium spun cylinder which takes a Par 38 lamps and has both an in and an out cable so that its easy to link lots in a chain. If I'm right they were made by Thomas to order, but I think Lightfactor kept some black ones in stock. Best of Luck! Light Tricks
wiseyd
We used to use round uplighters (using a PAR 38 lamp) that were made by Lumitron (stock number 16-001). I think the company was based in Park Royal, London. It has been at least four years since we last used them - we have custom built uplighters now. It might be worth calling Nick our Warehouse Manager to see of there are any old stock remaining. I hope this helps.
