Avo Visualiser Lead

Hello all

I have a problem - I am currently building my own Avo visualiser lead the problem I have is the transistor in the instructions it says you need a BC337 transistor but all I can purchase from maplins is a --BC337-16 and from what I can see from online data sheets the BC337 and the BC337-16 have slightly different properties any one know if this matters also if it does where I can get a BC337 transistor from .

with thanks

Couple of things for information, you guys may already be aware of. Firstly the visualiser lead is only required for Pearl 2000 consoles, the 2004 has a dedicated visualiser port which can be connected directly to the serial port of your PC. Secondly when setting the Pearl to Visualiser mode in the MIDI setup, the desk slows down by an alarming amount! Almost to the point that it is un-usable in my opinion. Finally the Visualiser lead for Pearl 2000's is available to buy from Avolites, priced at around £30.

Thanks for that so asume you still need the lead when you have a 2000 running 2004 software due to lack of ports but what about the software side I asume it knows its on a 2000 and doesnt have the port .

As for the lead being availabe from Avo yes but you can buy all the bits for maplins for less than £5 than have all the fun of bulding it I did look at buying one but with vat and P&P added on it come to some where around £40 and is I was just curious how it worked and wanted to see if was of any use decided I didnt want to spend that much on a what if.

but thanks for the info -- I have purchased the BC337-16 transistor so in few hours we will know if it works I have a feeling I am gonna have to source a BC337

Yes you do still need a lead on a 2000 running 2004 software. It's entirely a hardware thing and therefore has no effect on the software. The setup for visualiser on the console is exactly the same i.e. set the MIDI setting to Visualiser.

Ok update time -- built the lead took a few mins

IT DOESN'T WORK waaaaa

did the test with the paper clip in the d plug nothing ........then the test with a midi lead and that works so the desk is ok

so back to the lead ....is this not working because I could be the wrong transistor ???? all connections are as they should be .

so I carried on and did the pc side of it would I be correct in thinking you have to set up a computer to computer connection in networks (I have no idea on PC's I use apples ) to activate the COM ports or does visualiser just do it once I have told it the one in use .

Yet again if any one has a clue please let me know

Thanks
