EmmaG
At the end of next month Sedos are putting on Merrily we Roll ALong.....however they won't be rolling anywhere if I can sort out the directors request for multi level staging. We have some of the lower structures but need additional legs but we are missing: LxWxH Section A = 24x12x7.5 Section B = 16x8x3 Section C = 8x8x5 3 sets of treds of various heights to link bit together. 1 single step. I have tried steeldecking.com, DSH, LEL, DHE.... Anyone got any other suggestions....or fancies assisting the construction at the Bridewell Theatre, London on the 28th May? Advice gratefully received!
back_ache
Talk to "point source" www.pslx.co.uk they are friendly, hire steeldeck, steeldeck accesories and have a bandsaw to make custom leg lengths.

Rob
Hi Emma, The nearest people will be Steeldeck themselves who are in Kings Cross - 020 7833 2031. Alternatively, Point Source as suggested above or Square One on 020 8806 9292. Don't the Tower Theatre company have some bits and legs at the Bridewell? NeilCarson
Hi, I used to be the Technical Manager at the Bridewell Theatre just before it closed down and the institute took it over. Any way my own coment on steel deck in that space is be careful (as Im sure you will) about were you place the stage as the flooring (under the thin ply) is wood which has been there for a long while and there were alot of random small traps cut into it (I know because I cut some!) the larger ones were always replace but the ones the size of 2" scaff might still be there!! Good luck though! How is the old place? Neil
EmmaG
Thanks for the advice! The place is still standing, although there are a few less lights and other bits and bobs that we took for granted. I do love doing shows there but I wish there was someone more 'technician' around that knows the place when you do a get in. Its very much trail and error sometimes. There is some steel decking that is already in the Bridewell that I can use, do you know where that came from by any chance?! NeilCarson
Most of it was generally aquired over the years, bits were bought for show specific things. The best way to get hold of equipment I found while running that place was to set up a trading relationship with another small theatre. Contact me direct if you want any more info. Chris Davies
Might be worth getting hold of a copy of 'Contacts' or the 'British theatre directory' as these will have loads of companies advertising along with contact details for hire of all kinds of stuff including staging. Have you tried any drama schools? might be worth a try, even if you end up with diffrent bits from diffrent places. Most of them will probably not charge you for the hire provided you mention them in the programme. CHRIS
Ellis
Just a small point Emma, you do not specify any units in your post. Assuming feet, any hire company should be able to cover the rotsra part of your requirements, but you should bear in mind that cross-bracing and horizontal bracing at the bottom of the legs will be needed (using scaffolding). Try looking in the links section of this site. As for treads, you may be lucky, but it might be easier to find someone to make the exact sizes you want - otherwise I can guarantee that it will either be too big or too small.
