blackbeast250
HI, does any one have any experience of this speaker, and would a pair of these be a better option for a singer/guitarist set up than a full kv2 system consisting of 2 ex 12 and 2 ex 2.5s , is the sound from the meyers noticably better ? thanks , Robin
Pete McCrea
Although a Meyer advocate, at 58kgs a peice, I doubt they'd be much fun for a guitarist to put onto a pole...... Even the UPA-1P is a brute at around 30kg. I'm guessing that you've seen them second hand? I'd be surprised if you could get the Meyer for the same price as the KV2's. Try looking for some of the smaller Meyer boxes such as the UPA's. The Meyer sound is quite clean and crisp- often what you put in is what you get out, and is favoured for classical and the more folky types of programme, so would probably be spot on for the type of stuff your dealing with. But Listen to all the boxes you are proposing, and also consider the practicalities such as weight.
djw1981
We used some UPA's on a job last year, and I found that, compared to our usual d&b E3's, when used as front filss there was noticably more sound spill out the back of the cabinet, resulting in feedback. This was not something I had found with the E3's. In a small venue this might be an issue, but as ever, your experiences will be different. Chappie
I don't think it's fair to compare an E3 to a UPA in any aspect, seeing as the UPA uses components that are twice the size and the box is over twice as powerful. A more appropriate comparison would be the UPM-1/2P. In reference to the original post, while the CQ is a nice box, it is certainly not designed for lifting by one person and is not stand-mountable. In terms of on-a-stand weight, I wouldn't want to go any bigger than a powered UPA (even these can be a struggle). You may want to have a look at the UPJ-1P, it's very efficient and very easy for a single person to throw around.
blackbeast250
hi , ok the cq1 does seem a bit heavy , even though I do always have help,(aside are there heavy duty stands that you can get that you wind the speaker up ) I was thinking about getting two of them , and avoiding having to use bins at all , which I would be using in the kv2 set up, so rephrasingn the question slightly and bringing chappies suggestion of the upa which I have now looked at the spec for and they are the same weight as my current speakers (hk vt112s) will the meyer sound speakers upa or cq1 sound significantly better than the kv2s, and which bin would go with the upas?someone asked if I had seen the meyer sound second hand as I wouldnt get them for the same price as the kv2s , I have'nt , I just have an oppertunity to get myself a system , and I want it to as good as it gets.(also are there heavy duty stands that you can get that you wind the speaker up with a handel or something?)thanks , Robin anybody on speaker stand resources? thanks
