HOG100

Hi

Your best bet is to just use the manual. It is for the 500 and the 1000 version. They are basically the same. As long as you are familiar with the Hog tracking system etc etc then it is very easy to pick up.

I had no 'mess' time but picked up the 500 version in no time at all.

:) to the blue room by the way.

A quick :) found me this image:

http://209.200.79.90/images/gear/Hog_500.jpg

This is the 500, but practically the same. Everything to the left side is the playbacks, with a playback fader, and a play and pause button to every playback. The centre section and buttons are all for viewing your actions and jumping between screens on the LCD. The wheels are also there for your intensity and the moving light attributes. The right hand side is the navigation, memory and external LCD control. And lots of short cut buttons for various other things.

I think you want a pic showing what button is where, but unless someone has one taken themselves, dont think you will find one on the net.

From this pic and the manual though, should be able to work most things out.

I've got the HOG PC version installed together with ShowDesigner.

The Hog uses more or less the same buttons but the placement is not exactly the same...

Like B1NUZZ said as unless someone makes a picture it's guessing...

BTW thanks for the quick response everyone.

Regards, Bert.

As a fairly recent convert to the hog style of operating system, I have to say I found trying to fathom things out from the manual very difficult. I was sure I'd got things sussed, then when doing it for real, discovered things I'd 'guessed' which were really obvious, didn't work. You need a real control linked to real lights to do it.

Little things like building up states or scenes to bung in to palettes. As a Strand man, it was obvious to me that 12 full, 61 full, 41 full, record then prod the destination button would obviously work. On a Strand syntax system it would record the visual state you can see, on the hog you just record the active channel(s) in the programmer - as in this case ch 41! if you do 12+61+41 full - this works, or you can use active, enter to grab the visual efect currently live. None of this I picked up from the book.

You really need to sit in front of these things - I'm getting better, but many things are still a mystery. Prod a button and the expected thing happens, do a few things and then do it again and it doesn't. Things like keeping faders active when you change pages - holdover in the book looks simple, but when you try it it doesn't work quite the way you expect (or maybe, I expected)

yeah, I also had te same problems. We hired one for a show and we had to sit down at the desk in quiet moments trying to get our heads round the programmer.

A quick hint: When building up a state, have the programmer open on the external monitor, and keep lloking at it, all the channels in there, will record into the cue, but make sure you keep an eye out for tracking.

Blackouts on this desk are your friend. It means that you can start again from scratch. But make sur eeverything is actually recorded at 0%, not just recorded at 'not on'. make sure all the groups of lights are at 0% otherwise when playing back, you will find that all of one type of light is still dancing across the stage from the last song!

Not that that ever happened of course... *ahem*

If you are new to the desk, whilst programming, it will be worth, just checking what you have done, every 10 cues or so, to make sure you havemt got the tracker wrong. You dont want to be 200 cues in and realise at 1am that the tracker has gone tits up, and you STILL have the dancing light across the stage.

Not that I have ever done that either!

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.

I'm quit used to program some show and have some expirience on WholeHog and Maxxyz wich have more or less the same programming methods.

But nevertheless... keep those tips comming.

:)

Found a document on the HighEnd website wich contains most of the buttons. :)

I tend to use a "Absolutely everything" group palette, as then I can grab every light in the rig with one button press, which makes creating a complete block cue much easier - you have to select the fixtures to block individually otherwise.
