lifeisacabaret
Hi Guys, Im off to see The Rocky Horror Show on Wednesday at the Mayflower in Southampton, and I was wondering if anyone here had some technical info on the show. The tours' only just started up, so there aren't any trade articles about yet. In particular im interested in the sound and lighting systems, so if anyone has some info that would be marvellous! Looking forward to hearing from you!:-) JG
Guest lightnix
If it's a new production, then you may have to wait a bit to find out, but if it's a revival of a previous production (which is more likely) there may already be some info out there. Not quite sure where you'd look for it, though
lifeisacabaret
Hiya, thanks for replying. Its a totally new production in every aspect- I believe Richard O'Brien has taken it back to its roots- Im waiting to see what exactly that means! Also, ive seen some official shots from the dress rehearsal, and unlike in previous years, the cast use their lavs all through the show (previously, hand helds were used for the songs, and the lavs and handhelds were switched between dialogue (lavs) and handhelds (singing).). I'm really curious to know what I can about the system- I find its always nice to know the details of a system you hear! (Anorakish I know, so sue me! ** laughs out loud **). Guest lightnix
Not quite sure where you'd look for it, though Edit: ...apart from :) of course :( Does this link help? It looks like it is a new production.
lifeisacabaret
Does this link help? Thanks, but not really- thats a fan site (which I've alreay visited), not a technical site. Thankyou anyway though. JG

ankersandrew
it will never be as good as the Theatre Royal Hanley PLC production that toured from 1984 - 1988
lifeisacabaret
Well, thats helpful. It might be, give it a chance. Or it might just be different. Richard O'Brien has gone back to the book and taken it back to largely what it was before actors started adding their own parts.
gareth
it will never be as good as the Theatre Royal Hanley PLC production that toured from 1984 - 1988What did you think of it when you saw it, Andrew? You have seen it, right? I mean, someone who hadn't seen it obviously wouldn't dismiss it out of hand as you did ...
Suze
Well having seen the tour many times before and now working on it I can absolutly say that the system is punchy and very clean, have been issues with vocals but the boys are fixing it and when the time warp kicks off the subs thud through ure heart!! Lx is very rock and roll, in true Nick Ritchings style. All in all its a great show to watch, and a great show to be touring, if anyone wants more specifics then let me know. lifeisacabaret
yes I have seen it and didnt like it Ok then, that means you didnt like it, not that it'll never be as good as the hanley production. - unnecessary quoting removed. back_ache
It's got to be better than the last production, is was paired back to much and had that "watching a party you not invited too feeling" rather than the inclusive interactive feel it's famous for. danburns
I saw the show on Thursday night and really enjoyed it. At times, my friend and I personally felt that the vocals weren't quite loud enough in comparison to the band, but it wasn't a major issue. And I don't know if this was the venue or the company, but they were confiscating items at the doors, and doing bag searches - no rice/water pistols/toast etc. I can see why, but isn't that part of the point? (Although kudos to the mayflower - after confiscating water pistols at the entrance, you could buy water bottles with sports caps on just 12 feet ahead!) the kid
I remember .... taking to several people who have seen it in cinema etc and them telling tales of straping water pistols to crotches, toast under arms anything they could do to get things in.
