D&B Max 15

Hi All,

A collegue of mine has just bought 4 second hand D&B Max 15's.

At present, they are wired for active use (all 4 pins on the NL4), but he wants to use them passive. They will be used for his band as Main PA (2 a side, linked = 4ohms) with EV MTL-1 Subs crossed around 150Hz.

Just after people's opinions really as to how people run theirs.

Do you run active or passive on a Max 15?

Cheers

Hi Ben!

I have only ever used d&b Maxies with their own d&B amp/controllers so cannot comment on their performance using an alternative amp.

The d&b site recommends that you use sub filters if not using their own amps. Have a look at the following pdf from their manual as to regarding this and wiring issues.

I've run the Max 15 passive using the internal crossover and QSC PLX power, and also active using D&B D12s. In general I don't think that there is much to tell between the two modes at all in terms of sound level or quality really. They seemed to work fine in both circumstances to me, so I don't think I'd be using a biamped setup unless a rider demanded it, and perhaps not even then if I could speak to the ME in advance.

Regards

Chris

Hi

We tend to run them passive. If you take off the rear pannel (with the NL4s on it) you an make the pin links to make this the default. Another option is make a shorting NL4 plug for the end of the run.

We use QSC PL2402's with the sub (30Hz) filter turned on. Never lost a driver.

I have done really critical listening tests to them in active on a P1200 / D12. I really like it but its expensive!
