LIPA interview

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I'm new hear

I've applied to do Sound Tech at LIPA and am pleased to say I have an interview on monday.

I'm worried because I've never had an interview before and don't really know what to expect.

Has anyone hear had an interview for sound tech (or any course) there? Are you on the course? What will they ask?

Any help would be really appreciated, please post before monday though!

Jack

no pun intended on 'hear', I meant 'here'

ahem

I know I have under 100 posts, so I'm not sure whether im qualified to say this BUT

try using the search button search for interview advice-you will find 169 posts on the issue. If you have any specific questions not answered then ask again.

Oh, Welcome to the Blue room :D

alas I have searched but none seem to give any real indication of what the interview was like.

any ex- interviees out there? Were you succesful?

Also, is anybody else doing Music Tech or similar courses next year? Where are you going? And of course, why?

theres a lot of question marks there, sorry

A good place to start any search is the relevant FAQ - in this case the Training & Qualifications one .... within which you'll find :

At LIPA, you spend most of the day doing group based activities and then have an interview towards the end.

It's not much information, but it's something

I had an interview last year for TPT and as mentioned above the day involved group based activities followed by the interview at the end, the interview was failry relaxed and involved talking through my portfolio. As well as been given questions asking me what I would do in certain situations!

e.g. What problems have you come across when doing a show/gig?

What did you do to solve these problems?

They are a couple of questions I can remember! Sorry its not much but it was over a year ago!

Final tip - don't leave preparation till the night before like I did! It doesn't pay off!!

yeah, I'd say to get ready for your interview at least a week or two in advance so that you don't get panicked by it all on the day. As for questions, they're likely to ask you.

Why your interested in this field.

What other interests you have.

Why you chose LIPA.

What previous experience you have.

Where you hope to be in 5/10 years.

I went for stage management so there is probably a discrepancy between the course questions, but on the whole I imagine they'll stay fairly similar. If you can find a way to calm yourself down on the day that will help, tell yourself you can do it and that you'll get in, don't listen to the other people boasting about their achievements as it'll make you feel worse, and more than likely they aren't quite telling the whole truth! Smile, relax and enjoy the day! I think those are the main things. ;) good lucky btw!

I did TPT last year and those questions where exactly what they asked me.

We had a tour, filled in a questionnaire on theatre and what shows we'd done and then had a really informal chat through my portfolio. Not really very scary at all!

Hope this is some help and good luck!

Hi

All that I can say is that I got into LIPA this year to study TPT and was asked the same questions as the other people have mentioned.

All that I can say is to do the preperation early and not to get too worried.

Good luck

Alex

Thank you everyone who offered advice

I've just got back from my interview...

:)

I think it went well, but maybe not well enough to beat the other billion candidates. I guess I'll know in a few weeks.

Thanks again for the help, you were spot on.
