chiekurs
I'm just wondering - is there any fictures witch allow you to set DMX addres without turning them on? (I'm not talking about dipswitches:) some kind of internal batery witch powers internal computer to enable setup.. had this idea when in the middle of set-up we was left without power.. paulears
nice idea - patent it quick before anybody actually does it. As far as I know, I've never seen this - to be honest, I can't really think why you'd need it - surely you want them powered up?
Tom Baldwin
Yes, Clay Paky Alpha series have this.
Guest lightnix
Vari-lite Series 300 Smart Repeaters use "thumbwheel" style switches to set the address, too (as did the Series 100 & 200 luminaires). The address is / was then read by the unit on power-up - no battery backup required.
Light Console
Robe lights have a start up function that stops the head from moving and the lamp striking, but still requires mains.
chiekurs
no real big need for this, but like in situation we had - problems with power for fictures, but was a way to power motors so we could lift up rig if DMX addreses and settings would be set.of cause nothing special, but while we were sitting and waiting, this idea flashed through the mind.. SparkySteve
As Tom said, The clay Paky alpha series have in-line batteries which charge up when the head is powered and allow you to change the set up of the head (including DMX address, mode and other usefull things) without the mains plugged in.... very very helpful! Neil Frazer
The new VL500 has an optional battery powered remote that allows access to menu functions whilst the unit is un-powered. This saves you having to get the units out of the flight case as well as the menu display on the unit is half way down the yolk.
