Guest lightnix
Sorry to sound like a but presumably you have already done a Search. Most of these desks have been discussed in fair depth already and there's a lot of info waiting to be found ;)
KindredHyperion
A desk bigger than GRAND MAWhat could you possibly need that's bigger than a GrandMA? <_< With NSPs the GMA can control up to 64 DMX universes, that's 32768 channels!

Wasn't impressed! Edit/ just checked, unlimited number of DMX outputs. Or do you mean in terms of playback faders? Cause with MagicQ desks you can hook up 202 playbacks by my maths. (actually more than that, but the software only drives 202)

chiekurs
you should ask this to light operators that will have to work with these consoles..

Rob
As a programmer/operator: Virtuoso DX2 I'm not sure if they make DX2s or even full Virtuoso's anymore... The crucial bit of information we need to know, is exactly what sort of gigs / rigs they will be used on - The OP mentions events but has a Strand 520 on the list which is largely only used in theatre applications. The merits of each particular console have also been discussed in depth already...

ricklds
The problem is we need a board that is easy for Thai folks to operate and minimal language knowledge is highly required so, This is a problem with some high-tech boards. The problem with our GRAND MA is when it comes to concerts with more than 300 movers then it's very slow with the software and the processor so, we need a bigger one to do shows with 600 Movers and LEDs by the end of this yr. paulears
Without wishing to be rude - if you have a venue with 600 movers as a typical show - and a budget to even consider these price range desks, I would think the manufacturers would be falling over themselves to give you desks to try out. If buying kit in Thailand means buy the best, but struggle to communicate with the ops due to language problems - this seems very alien to our ways of working over here. Neil Frazer
As a programmer/operator: Virtuoso DX2I'm not sure if they make DX2s or even full Virtuoso's anymore...AFAIK the DX2 was an upgrade for existing consoles, the sale of which was tragically discontinued at the start of 2002 :) Ah, but wait! The DX2 was an upgrade to the DX which AFIK was to allow it to link with the Vari*lite media server (memory upgrade etc.). The original Virtuoso the VX was a larger beast which had the apple mac hardware built in and better front panel access to the effects section. PRG (formerly vlps) have now taken over the development of this console and AFIK you may be able to purchase them once more. You can certainly hire them and there are constant software updates. The Virtuoso is a great console for both movers and generics but does not do tracking in the same way as a strand or a hog so may not be to everyones taste. The way it handles effects and chases is very good IMO. It is limited to 2000 fixtures per console but with DMX nodes you can have up to 64 universes (AFIK. May be more than this now, not sure). You can also have the usual tracking backup, multiple consoles, fiber optic networks etc. Personally I find it one of the most intuitive consoles to use.
