lxkev
What regs cover fixed installation of lighting bars??? Is this covered in Loler? i.e. When putting movers or speaker on our lx bars we host them up, using the LX bar as the anchor point for a pulley.... Also "legally" do installed lx bar need to have a SWL and what regulation covers this......
Ellis
Hi, AFAIK, LOLER does not apply to fixed intallations, but the hoist you use to lift movers (and the fixing point used) do have to comply with LOLER. Regardless of the existence of regulations, you have a duty of care when installing anything that could become dangerous. Permanent instalations are more likely to be subject to building regulations so your local council's building control department, an architect or a structural engineer might be a good place to start. Wilf dLampy
"legally" do installed lx bar need to have a SWL You can bolt a bar into the ceiling without giving it an SWL (assuming the thing you're attaching it to has a SWL greater than the bar itself). BUT you shouldn't hang lights (for example) unless you know the thing you're hanging them on is rated for the weight of the light. The SWL on the lx bar would be a (very) good indicator of this, if one isn't there then how do you know that the lx bar is rated for that particular fixture? Seano
Just a quick reminder:When you attach a pulley to a bar and use it to pull something up, the load experienced by the bar is a somewhat more than twice the weight of the thing you're pulling up.(Because on one side of the pulley you have the weight of the thing plus a bit of extra force required to accelerate it upwards, and on the other side you have the same again, plus a little bit extra to overcome the friction involved in the pulley.)
