DC FX
Anyone have any idea where the old fashioned World War Bomb releases have gone, used to use them all the time on features but there seems to be a real lack of alternatives Any leads appreciated :)
Storm_machine
Magnetic door releases - 12v - fail open or closed, I take it we're talking kabuki drop or similar C
DC FX
Sorry Maybe got misunderstood..... I was looking for Mechanical Bomb releases used to drop real heavy weights up to 5 Tonnes, we used to get them out of World War II fighter planes, they are usually 12V and mechanical in case of electronics failure. They tend to be about 12" in length and about 6" wide with a steel claw type opening on the underside I've tried all the Aircraft breakers yards I could find but to no avail, was wondering if anybody had any or new of anyone making similar replacements Kind of similar to this, but obviously bigger and 12V/24V
Pyromark
Kind of similar to this, but obviously bigger and 12V/24VI have never ever seen such a thing, It would have to be quite special to drop 5 tonnes. If I had to drop 5 tones I would use a Plastic Explosive Linear Cutting Charge - But they are kind of difficult to get hold of if you dont have an Explosives license and RCAD :D
DC FX
Just so everyone knows what I'm talking about here is a picture of similar: http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j88/duncan0130/bombrelease.jpg Again any leads appreciated
13FingerFX
Cutting Edge used to have loads of them, I remember from Batman, but as they closed down I'm not sure where'd they have gone. I guess if you can hunt down Robby Scott he may have them still, or at least know where they went. Also, Artem's hire and sale unit might be a god starting point. Jivemaster
There are some slightly similar catches used on gliders for attatching the towline and releasing it under load. purely mechanical though-- pull the string and you're on your own! Seano
How about this sort of thing:http://www.wichard.com/catalogue/base/grandes_images/smous881.jpg Any good?Seanx <edit: I realised it doesn't look very strong from the picture, so I thought its worth mentioning that they're available with a minimum breaking load of up to 9 tonnes. Surprised me. I found it whilst looking for trebuchet release mechanisms.>

Jivemaster
I guess that with things pre LOLER there could be an issue with compliance, unique IDs etc. Remember that rigging uses an 8x safety factor Aero can use a lot less ( 2x ! )
