lonfire
hi,I'm looking for a more robust version of these:http://www.maplin.co.uk/images/full/44212i0.jpg I've tried the usual suspects (rs, CPC, farnel, maplins) but they all stock the same thing.. I've seen some better ones but not sure where to get them from.. any ideas? thankschris
timtheenchanteruk
Ive never seen a more robust type of those, they are usually in home equipment, not very often seen in pro sound etc, because they are flimsy and the cables come out so easy, a pair of small monitors I have replaced them with proper speaker connections, the only other suggestion I have is binding posts
Chris Beesley
I would either go down the SPEAKON route or 4mm Banana/Binding posts - if you get the binding posts with the internal bores you can use 4mm banana plugs attached to the cables. My vote is for SPEAKON... and avoid the 2-pole stuff just get 4-pole and only use the first set of pins (1-1+) regards Chris B(non-CPC post)
lonfire
hi guys, thanks for that.. perhaps should have made it clearer.. I posted in the sound forum as this is where they are used most (although not in the pro side of things).. I'm actualy looking for them for attaching firing caps to a firing system for fireworks.. better ones of these definately exist, just need to find out who makes them.. thankschris
Tomo
Yowch! This ought to be in Pyros then, as I very much doubt that you'll find sprung speaker connectors that would be suitable. There is more likely to be specialist Firework stuff that should be used. mac.calder
Binding posts are typically what you will find on domestic equiptment if they require something 'better' than spring loaded clamps. That said, have a look at this product I have only heard good things about them.

p.k.roberts
this product I have only heard good things about them.I've used these on a Fire One system and they are very good, robust connectors. However, the 'speaker connectors' in the original post do come in several 'grades' - the RS variety are definitely better than the Maplin version, so I would advise ordering a few samples from different suppliers before rejecting them all. Also, don't forget the fallout from fireworks is pretty nasty muck (especially when mixed with a bit of rain and mud!) so some kind of lid or cover on your firing outlets would be a very good idea to protect whatever kind of connector you finally end up with. timtheenchanteruk
Ah, in that case, with pyros, Sky High FX sell a unit I think its called the professional interface, but it may be that its only compatible with their firing units
Jivemaster
To reduce the chance of pulling the wires out, I have seen a bar fastened to the case to secure all the flying leads at the connection point. There are cage clamp connectors in the RS book for lighting use, and the sprung clamps as on speaker chassis are in the Maplin book.
