Patt 743 Barn Doors

Does anyone know where I can get hold of some Patt 743 barn doors. If you do know somewhere could you either reply here or email me at jammie300@aol.com please.

Best bit is to try Stage Electrics or AC Lighting (although I'm sure others will stock them too) as Thomas make a replacement set of barndoors (which I think have slightly different sized leafs to the originals) for about £30+VAT.

 

Or have a look in the FAQ list, and try some of the 2nd hand dealers who may have some on their books.

I think there's a company called "Archive Lighting" or something very similar who may be able to help you out.

Watch out for the modern replacements not having the clips & springs to stop them falling out. Part of next weeks PAT test & repair session will be creating some form of safety bond arrangement for 123s & 743s.

I am also looking for a few more sets of Barndoors for the Patt743. I have found however that some of the cheaper brands of PAR 56 Barn doors are near enough the same size!

The colour frame for a Patt 743 is 215mm, I have managed to get cheap barndoors (about £12.00) for a PAR56 that were around 212mm. I think that they were Showtech or some other budget brand, I'll have a look and see if I can find the supplier. I know that a Standard (Thomas) PAR 56 barn door will not fit, these were slightly different.

All I needed to add was a bond to the lantern. The only other problem is that the barndoors are not mounted on a square, rotatable backplate, only on a circular mount. Good luck finding any originals, most people are trying to hang onto the 743's as they are so versatile, even though they are such and old lantern.
