Pheamer
Okay guys, I'm a big avo fan and know the pearl and diamond inside out. I have a big gig coming up shortly using house equipement and desk. Lamps are Mac 600's and Giotto 400 CMYs. All good. Some pars and ACL's and we have a gig. Problem is control which is a hog pc. I've seen them but have never used one in my puff. Can someone tell me if I'm in for problems or should I spec a Pearl to be taken with us? Is there an off line editor like the Pearl Simulator program, so I could try it out first? Cheers! niclights
:) :) awesome gif - almost an exact replica of the last show I watched controlled by a hog PC ;) (just joking. I don't want to start a silly argument!)
Tomo
It's horses for courses.A Pearl is probably better for busking, a Hog is probably better if you want one or more theatre stacks. A Hog is fairly easy to pick up the basics, BUT it's very different to the Pearl. When I went on a basic course to learn the Hog, the guy who came from a Pearl had a lot of difficulty learning how to wrap his head around the new way of working, simply because of the huge difference. The Hog is based around palettes and cue stacks and is a tracking console. I'm not a Pearl guy (used the Azure a bit), but it looks to be more fixture and state oriented. Personally, I'd use the HogPC because I like the desk, but you will need at least the programming wing, preferably a fader wing as well.Programming using only the virtual console is slow at best. Given that you're experienced with the Pearl, I'd say you may be best to get one. This depends on budget though - if the extra cash goes into your pocket, then...
