B.Phillips
Hello guys, I am the LD for 'oliver' in May. I had a technical meeting with the director last night. She decided she wanted to have a river which ran through the centre of the stage. But under a bridge, which is part of the set. I have got 2xmac 500's for the show which I know will create the right effect. Although my problem is creating the effect to also run under the bridge. Any ideas? Thanks Ben

Rich newby
You could also go for the physical effect aswell. We have quite often used a tube of light cloth, so when you put it on the ground and flatten it it is the right with for the river, and the right length. Then you put a blower or fan on 1 end and half seal the other end , so that the air can go right through however if you leave the end fully open it will just flow from 1 end to the other and will not inflate the tube at all. By doing this effect you will get the effect of the water rippling down the stream. HTHRich
B.Phillips
Rich, that is an idea although, the show runs from one scene to the next without b/o's so getting the sheet/fan on stage may be a problem. Thanks again.
GridGirl
Dry ice or low smoke would be my suggestion - get a few fans behind it and you should be able to channel it so it looks like a river.
the kid
You could run a slow chase of blues/green's ... have a base blue and then chase lighter and darker over. For under the bridge you could have birdies inset in to it and a flood. on the top for the base wash. Is the "river" to have a bank?
Jamtastic3
Just thought I'd mention - the best gobo that I use for a river effect is the one that looks like crossing french fries on the static gobo wheel. (that's if you have older mac 500's without glass gobos) Prism it on slow rotation and possibly have it OW or cyan depending.
B.Phillips
thanks for all your replies. I think I have decided to use four of these martin mania series I am going to rig 2 under the bridge focused down and 2 facing up towards the bridge to give the idea f the reflection off the river. danjshelton
Wot do you guys think? Have you used these before? Hi Ben, I've used the Martin Mania series, can be used to achieve the water effect that your after very well. I've used them to achieve a water effect also and it did the job easily and was simple to use. Cheers Dan
