VRX CONTROLLER

Hi there,

The VRX controller outputs DMX data, however there are some points to note, which may affect how other fixtures will act if used with it.

On the XLR connectors used, most manufacturers use:

Pin 1 Ground

Pin 2 Data -

Pin 3 Data +

Abstract, however reverse pins 2 and 3. This will stop it working if you don't use a pin 2 & 3 reversing cable to the first unit so that the data gets through ok. (although then use normal pin to pin (1 to 1, 2 to 2, 3 to 3) from then on).

Main other thing I can think of (after a 19 hour shift :g:) is that the channels might be a different way round, so for example, if you change the colour on the VRX, it might change the pan on another fixture.

Also, the VRX will "know" how many channels it should sent out per unit. e.g. 4 channels (pan, tilt, colour, gobo)

If you then have a different type of fixture, which uses a different number of channels (say it has 2 colour wheels for example, so 5 channels as opposed to 4), then channel one of unit 2 (on controller) will be the last channel of unit 1 (on the fixture).

where did my cuppa go? oh it's gone cold ;)

If my memory serves me right, the VRX is a dedicated Abstract controller.

You tell it what fixture is on the end of it, and it knows what channel does what. The fixture library only contains Abstract fixtures.

However, if you have other fixtures that have the same number of channels, and do the same thing per channel, then yes you can use other fixtures.

Don't try to use anything fancy on it though, or it will get very confused very quickly.
