3guk
Would a free online hire directory, containing companies that do not have a web prescence be of any use. I have been looking for hire companies over the past few days and it has been a nightmare. Trying to find companies in manchester, had to get the yellow pages out. So I had this thought about having a standard firectory, you know, opening hours, website link, address, county, about us type thing with a logo. No paid listings thats get you bosted to the top as it is unfair. Free to list and free to browse !! What do you think ?

Suzette
May I ask what is wrong with sometimes using a phone book or yellow pages instead of the internet? What would you do if you didn't have internet access for a few hours but needed a contact number for a hire company?I use my British Theatre Directory for a lot of contacts - especially when I'm not at my desk with computer access......... 3guk
Ok, for those that don't already know, the Ukslc.org Hire directory is availible at : http://www.ukslc.org/Hire_Directory.html We have quite a number of hire companies listed so far, if you own a hire company or would be prepared to spend 1minute filling out a form for a company you know / reccommend / have used. Then please get in touch !! Listings are free !!
StevieR
What, you don't have the phonebooks online? We do...http://www.whitepages.co.nzhttp://www.yellowpages.co.nz Well, yes we do. However, for the Yellow Pages, you have to pay separately for a listing in the on-line version and separately again for the 'talking pages' (i.e. 118 247). Total pain for us suppliers as they are a darn expensive option for even one of the methods. In response to the OP, free to list industry directories are a great resource. However, there are already a number of them out there and you must market the directory to make it work. This is the same reason that a large percentage of companies don't show up on a :D although they still have an online web presence. 3guk, if you do go ahead, perhaps a directory where you can search for suppliers on multiple criteria - e.g. sound hire AND stage hire AND based NEAR Leeds. Make it a bit more flexible than some. Steve Edit: Just noticed that the directory already exists. Hah! Must have a look-see...
