Jivemaster
I am looking for a software for the automation of music and jingle playout for a local hospital radio. I am well familiar with the current market for DJ systems, but the wish list is now moving away from DJ control to full automation. Has anyone any wisdom for me please. hexguyuk
Hi - just to quickly introduce myself - I'm Robert, I love everything sound - love theatre etc.... however I also have one rather special passion - radio! ah yes. fraid so. I work as a Station Manager at KEVI Radio (Student Station), assistant transmission manager for Lionheart Radio (Community Station) and also sit on the Schools Radio Network board... Theres many many different softwares - I'll give you my top few... 1) Sound Sequencer - www.ssq.info2) Myriad - www.psquared.net3) BCX - www.barrcode.alivewww.co.uk4) Audio Enhanced DPS - www.audioenhancedps.co.uk5) MegaSeg - MACINTOSH ONLY! I've heard its good, though havent tried it.6) Direttore - www.mixtime.com7) SAM - www.spacialaudio.com8) DARP (although I cant remember the URL for this!) I would suggest Sound Sequencer for ease of use, features and price - however reliability is sometimes an issue - and the computer requires a restart every so often to keep it ticking over nicely. If you need any info - please call me sometime 07753 27 18 14 or email me: robert.pobjoy@lionheartradio.co.uk. Thanks
Bobbsy
How about something like this: Radio Playout Freeware I found it recently and, although freeware, it's pretty good. If you do have a budget to purchase something, of the list above Myriad is one I've used and know is good. Finally, you might find something useful here: http://www.the-radio-site.com/links/pages/Software/Players/ I've not tried it but I hear that Caban is good. Hope this helps, Bob

hexguyuk
yes - Dalet is goodo - many of the emap stations use this. Look at VCS Dira! too - BBC Radio use this - or Radio 1 does anyway.
3guk
SAM - By spacial audio OtsDJ I prefer the second of the two as it is great for radio automation and works on even the most basic of systems. Its not cheap but many are not cheap, I have a review if you would like to read.??
Dmills
Rivendell, http://www.salemradiolabs.com free (Source is available) but linux based. Works well in a networked environment and has excellent support for automated recording and file transfer. Disclaimer, I am one of the developers. Regards, Dan. Robfl20
We use NexGen Digital from Prophet Systems for playback in one of our theatres, although it is actually designed for use in radio stations. They offer a few different flavours, it might be worth a look http://www.prophetsys.com/
David
Have a look at http://www.broadcast.co.uk/product_info.ph.../products_id/35 for £59 you carnt go wrong
hexguyuk
Seriously... Even though its hospital radio - I'd go for something pretty standard accross the board. Myriad or Dalet is just the ticket, however do watch out as these are pricy. I also must say - after using otsDJ and SAM in the past - they are no where as near as good as other stuff. Remember that its not just the price you need to take into consideration, there are more imprtant factors such as ease of use - especially in an enviroment as Hospital Radio. Personally - thumbs up on Sound Sequencer (www.ssq.info) this is just the ticket - and is built for the job! Also, John Cantrill (programmer) will give you ALL the support you will ever need - really he does a magic job, and if you have a problem, once call away is John, unlike many of the companies (who deal with SAM etc) who pee you around! Yes - been there with a trial version problem in the past! Robert :)
Bobbsy
Admittedly my experience was six or seven years ago, but.... I've had huge problems in the past with using Dalet on a network. It may well have improved by now, but if we're talking paying for a professional setup, I'd be looking at Myriad first. Bob
MattCasson
Hi not sure, but if you looking at having it so you can have jingles listed, play cds and setup playlists, then CSMD http://www.csmd.co.uk might work for you, it does all those things! Possible worth a look, however I understand you might be looking for something more specialist. Matt
Big_L
We use Myriad and have been very happy with it. The support from psquared has been fantastic as well. Take a look at this forum (Mediauk) as this sort of discussion is a reasonably regular question there! Lewis
