Radio playout Software

I am looking for a software for the automation of music and jingle playout for a local hospital radio. I am well familiar with the current market for DJ systems, but the wish list is now moving away from DJ control to full automation. Has anyone any wisdom for me please.

Hi - just to quickly introduce myself -

I'm Robert, I love everything sound - love theatre etc.... however I also have one rather special passion - radio! ah yes. fraid so. I work as a Station Manager at KEVI Radio (Student Station), assistant transmission manager for Lionheart Radio (Community Station) and also sit on the Schools Radio Network board...

Theres many many different softwares - I'll give you my top few...

1) Sound Sequencer - www.ssq.info

2) Myriad - www.psquared.net

3) BCX - www.barrcode.alivewww.co.uk

4) Audio Enhanced DPS - www.audioenhancedps.co.uk

5) MegaSeg - MACINTOSH ONLY! I've heard its good, though havent tried it.

6) Direttore - www.mixtime.com

7) SAM - www.spacialaudio.com

8) DARP (although I cant remember the URL for this!)

I would suggest Sound Sequencer for ease of use, features and price - however reliability is sometimes an issue - and the computer requires a restart every so often to keep it ticking over nicely.

If you need any info - please call me sometime 07753 27 18 14 or email me: robert.pobjoy@lionheartradio.co.uk.

Thanks :mods:

How about something like this:

Radio Playout Freeware

I found it recently and, although freeware, it's pretty good.

If you do have a budget to purchase something, of the list above Myriad is one I've used and know is good.

Finally, you might find something useful here: http://www.the-radio-site.com/links/pages/Software/Players/

I've not tried it but I hear that Caban is good.

Hope this helps,

Bob

Radioman (http://www.radioman.fi/)

Dallet (http://www.dalet.com/radio.html)

SAM - By spacial audio

OtsDJ

I prefer the second of the two as it is great for radio automation and works on even the most basic of systems. Its not cheap but many are not cheap, I have a review if you would like to read.??

Seriously...

Even though its hospital radio - I'd go for something pretty standard accross the board. Myriad or Dalet is just the ticket, however do watch out as these are pricy. I also must say - after using otsDJ and SAM in the past - they are no where as near as good as other stuff. Remember that its not just the price you need to take into consideration, there are more imprtant factors such as ease of use - especially in an enviroment as Hospital Radio.

Personally - thumbs up on Sound Sequencer (www.ssq.info) this is just the ticket - and is built for the job! Also, John Cantrill (programmer) will give you ALL the support you will ever need - really he does a magic job, and if you have a problem, once call away is John, unlike many of the companies (who deal with SAM etc) who pee you around! Yes - been there with a trial version problem in the past!

Robert :)

Admittedly my experience was six or seven years ago, but....

I've had huge problems in the past with using Dalet on a network. It may well have improved by now, but if we're talking paying for a professional setup, I'd be looking at Myriad first.
