Has anyone bought any starcloth recently? If so, where did you buy it and what sort of money does it cost? I'm thinking of buying a 6mtr x 3mtr piece as its something I seem to end up hiring all the time.

There is a company in Maplas (Cheshire) who make LED star clothes. I cant remeber their name but they have a unit above Prism. Im guessing if you ring prism they will tell you. The cloths they make are fairly descent.

I bought some star cloth for my venue from a company called hawthorn theatrical, they were really good and made it within a week and a half (it was quite big...2 pieces of 20ft x 20ft).

the best remark from the finance officer:

"can we use it again?".

I've made a starcloth on several occasions, and to be honest, it's not that hard! No idea what the costs are, but it's got to be cheaper than buying ready made. It's boring and repetitive, but you can get some good results, particularly if you put a gauze in front.

All you need is a fibre optic source thingy, an appropriate number of fibres, the two part collars that hold the fibres to the cloth, and a black tab of the required size. Then simply cut a hole, poke the fibre through and secure. Then repeat. The difficult bit is keeping the back of the cloth looking nice, and then 'folding' and packing it in a flight case. I suppose you could sew on a backing tab to cover the fibres, but I don't think it's THAT necessary. You'll need a method of securing the light source to the fly bar, but that shouldn't take more than a bit of ply and some screws.

Colleague of mine has loads of their cloths in variety of shapes & sizes - did a corporate gig covering the whole (well 3 sides) of a hotel function room with it a few weeks back - looked the docg's nuts!!

I gather it's not the cheapest, but it's dead easy to use, either programmed per channel off the desk, or using the preset chase sequences.

I like 'em, personally, and have hired them for stage work for many shows.
