Hambone
Can anyone recommend a source for a dozen or so economically-priced ready-made 0.5m 3-pin DMX cables? I don't really have the time (or soldering skills!) to make them up myself. Thanks!
ben.suffolk
Although there is little info on the CPC web site with this product, the offer catalogue it was introduced in made a thing in the description about it being digital cable and suitable for digital audio or DMX :- AV09865 They are however 3M which is longer than you asked for. Hambone
Thanks for that! The CPC site states that they are normal XLR cables. That's what I'm using now, and they seem to work without a problem. Is there any reason I should be using dedicated DMX cables if my XLRs are working? There are 15 fixtures, and the distance from the MIDI>DMX converter to the last fixture is only about 8 metres.
Stu
If it's any use, Stage Lighting (part of UsedLighting) have 1.5m for £4.70+vat. HTH,Stu
ben.suffolk
The CPC site states that they are normal XLR cables. That's what I'm using now, and they seem to work without a problem. Thats why I mentioned what they said on the offer catalogue about it, I find that sometimes the website does not contain the same info as the catalogues. There are plenty of threads around talking about this, but in essence, standard audio cables are out of spec for DMX transfer, but many people have had successes with them, (as with not using terminators). Neither is recommended, but if it works for you then great. Distance does certainly come into it, and shorter runs are much more likely to work than longer ones. If you see any issues (units not responding / flickering / stuttering) then after termination its the next thing to be looking at. Ben
niclights
Speak to AC. They sourced some bugdet ones for me recently. These particular ones were also 3m and just plain audio cable, but they work fine and I am quite happy about the quality.
