Jem
hey everyone,I'm currently involved in a production of 'Women of Troy' and I am making a baby for one of the characters. The baby is suppoossed to be about 2 months old. We are molding the head out of clay and then making a plaster mold to make a final rubber head and using sand to fill a soft body but I am not sure on how to make realistic limbs. using a doll has been ruled out due to the fact it looks like a doll really!! and due to tightness of budget we cant hire anything. I wondered if anyone had any advice or links that could be helpful Thank you

Laura
Do maternity sections of hospitals have fake babies to practice on?(I mean to practice feeding and changing rather than to practice giving birth to) If so would they be more realistic than dolls and could you get a lend of one to take a cast of? Is this a totally stupid suggestion?
shadaca
I know its a tight budget, but I think you are going to end up hating the baby for the sheer amount of time spent when you could be achieving more productive things. Have you really shopped around for a non dolly doll? They are out there. The BBC has a few that I know of, and I think all props have one if I remember rightly. We had a two year old for a production on Nana a couple of years ago, scarily realistic. Other than that have you phoned around all the drama schools? Its the sort of thing that they would have or know where to get. I'll have an ask around for you.
jude
If there is anything resembling a medical school near you ask the clinical skills department, they usually have some quite realistic dolls for practising on...If you are anywhere near Liverpool PM me, I know the director of clinical skills and can put you in touch
deranged-angel
You could try a company called Howarth Wrightson they are based in Manchester but have the biggest prop store I've ever seen. They've also just taken a lot of ITV's props so may be able to help you.... Emx
