paulears
I came across this - I don't imagine there are any un-examined safety problems, but a bit scary, nevertheless. http://www.stradacranes.com/stradcam2.gif there's a bit more on their web site here
pritch
There are wires. Going to his head. They didn't suspend him and a Steadicam from his head, did they?
MikeR
If you squint it looks like he has kneepads on - which will be handy if he falls. :D
thebigcheese
I do not know why they just cannot have the camera in a 'cage' which is controlled with a panel at the bottom of the crane. Like I have seen in television studios.
dosxuk
I would imagine (especially after looking at the site and them reffering to a "hook and release" system) that this is so you can have a single shot where a steadicam follows someone through a building (for example) and doorways, and then fly up into the air. If there are twists and turns, it would be very difficult to do this with normal technology like jimmy jibs / camera cranes where the camera is mounted to the jib.
