Hi Alex, welcome to the Blue Room.

Doing what, where, and what type of 'touring' events? Theatre, Rock and Roll or the Antiques Roadshow?

Whatever it is, you can be pretty sure you'll have to start at the bottom and work up, which in the beginning will probably involve zero touring. So, more information please...

I think I understand - you worked as local crew on tours that come to Leeds -

Ok.

What skills have you got?

Can you drive?

Lights, Sound, instrument tech, staging?

Age?

Last thing is pretty vital - communication skills. What do you think you did/didn't do that makes people not give you a chance?

You have to impress people to get jobs - maybe this is a problem area? Impress or annoy - sometimes a close thing. So let us have a bit of your CV - maybe we can work out where it's weak.

I'm not going to mention the amazingly bad grammar and sp............. oops, I just did - nearly!

Hello alexwebb80, welcome to the Blue Room :)

This is a frequently discussed subject and, without wishing to sound rude, a good many of the answers you seek (and other handy advice) can be easily found with our friend...

...most of the discussions on CV writing, interview technique and gaining experience in general can be found in the Training & Qualifications forum. Take a while to browse around, if you have any remaining questions about specific points, please feel free to ask them, in an existing thread if possible ;)

Also have a look at this guide on how to frame your questions to get the best quality answers, along with the other pinned topics in the Issues forum; those will help you get the "flavour" the Blue Room.

Best of luck :)
