Genus
Hello All, Is there any truth in the rumour that Strand are going to be releasing a new desk at one of the shows this year? I hear it is being kept really quiet and that people are hoping they come up with an imaginitive name this time! Genus :P

JDLX
Intriguing to say the least that they think windows will be more reliable than geniuspro.

KindredHyperion
Didn't I hear that it was going to run on UNIX at one point? Now there would be a smart decision! :)

Clarence
I'm keeping my mouth shut, but last time I was told, it certainly isn't running on Windows.... Stu Sounds like you know more than you're telling Stu... don't be a tease! You lucky guys who do this stuff for a living get to hear all the gossip, but us poor am-drammers are kept in the dark. Any information would be much appreciated! Anyone know when the new desk might be out? And can anyone explain to me (preferably in a really non-technical way!) about this Unix, Windows lark? Bryson
Actually, I'd rather we didn't get into Unix vs Windows right here...try a computer forum. You all have been warned...
sam.henderson
When I have spoken to strand they have said its doubtful it will be ready to be even previewed at PLASA '06. Sam
mac.calder
Odd, I heard they were bringing in a desk in about november/december which would be (feature/size wise) between the strand 200 and strand 300 (closer to the 300) - although that was from the aussie resellers of strand stuff, not strand themselves. andystone
I think the desk Sam was talking about is the replacement for the 500 series which is way overdue and I also heard that they would be very lucky to have even a preview at PLASA next year. Interesting the old argument about Windows v Unix v Linux v whatever has re-surfaced, does this really matter? Surely what matters is that a console is stable, has the features you need and is easy to use, the platform shouldn't be of any interest to the operator. Bryson
It's a real issue, this Strand desk business. Strand are currently enjoying the tail end of their desks being the "industry standard". But how long can they keep hinting at "Big Blue" before the people who need new desks can't wait any longer for Strand's vapourware? The other console manufacturers have moved on. Even ETC (who are perhaps the best comparison to Strand) have a next-gen console you can go and buy tomorrow (ETC AVAB Congo). Given the choice now between an aging 500 or a Congo, or a Vector, or a Vista or whatever, you'll need to be very, very attatched to your old programming style to choose 8-year old tech. I guess it's a balancing act. Strand obviously don't want to do a "Hog 3" and throw out a product that's not ready, but if they really don't have anything by PLASA 06, then they may well have missed the boat entirely. As a lifelong Strand desk-type, that would be a very sad thing, in my opinion.
