Balanced_XLR
I am looking to purchase a 1000watt RMS power amp, with 2 x 500watt RMS speakers. I wondered if anyone could tell me of a package that would suit a sound engineer looking to go into self employment in the recording industry. I am looking to spend no more than £800. Any Ideas? Bobbsy
Er, I'm a bit confused here. Your amp/speaker request sounds like your application is sound reinforcement, but then you go on to mention sound recording which implies you need high quality monitoring. Perhaps some more info is in order? Bob
Balanced_XLR
All I basically want is some bog off standared amps/speakers, just so I can also do perhaps the occasional disco etc. I have already got high quality moniors for recording purposes. paulears
You don't help us much, do you? Disco - well, not really our sort of thing. With my helpful hat on, are we talking background radio 2 music, drum and bass, or other specific styles of music. If you are looking for amp, subs, and tops for £800 you aren't really going to achieve the sound you hear in the studio. Amp and full range might be acceptable quality for your budget. A good start would be a look around the thomann website.
Bobbsy
Indeed. For your limited budget, Thomann is your friend, particularly some of their package deals. For disco you probably need a sub as well as a couple of full range...except this causes problems trying to drive it all from a single amp. Maybe try a powered cabinet solution like this one: http://www.thomann.de/thoiw2_artikel-183351.html . Bob
Balanced_XLR
Only one problem though!! I dont speak German.... ;) Are they safe to order from?
Mr.Si
lots of pro technicians on here seem to order from them. They do have an online shop too.
eamon
Hi There should be a country flag at the top of the screen which will display all the info in the language of your country. This will also give you the price in your local currency! I have never ordered from them but if you do a google you will find oodles of talk good/bad re the site. Best thing I'd reccommend is to look around at gear you want and them check it out on thomann. hope that helps
paulears
And if you speak to them, they have no problems with English at all.
Bobbsy
They have a pretty good reputation for reliability and service...and their on-line shop is multilingual. The link I posted takes you to an English language page...and if you go to the front page just click on the Union Jack for everything to appear in English. Frankly, in an ideal world I'd try to support a more local dealer, but with a budget of only £800 sometimes you have to be pragmatic. Bob Edit: Is this a record? Paulears and Eamon both got their posts in while I was typing the above...and I touch type at around 50 wpm!
paulears
No, always happens to me - and isn't it annoying!
Rich newby
Yer thomann are a brilliant dealer. Even if you go onto there first page, by typing www.thomann.de you get a selection of flags, which you have to chose to get onto there site. They speak English with no problems, in fact I'm sure the last person I talked to was English! A good bet might be an hk copy system, or do you specifically want only 2 speakers, or 3 to 4 speakers (2 tops and 1 or 2 subs) and do you want a powered system or a separate system? What will you be using it for exactly? A bit more info and I might be able to help, as I am a mobile discoer myself aswell as a technician. I have also recently bought a system, but I spend about 2k on it, but that was for everything. Rich
