Wash Light Colours

Just Some Bloke

Recommended Posts

Someone recently showed me some software which included settings for moving head washlights which were supposed to replicate Lee colour numbers. I tried them on some Mac 600s and they were RUBBISH!! :o

Does anyone know anywhere to get a sensible list of Rosco and/or Lee equivalents (I tend to use Mac 600s and 300s most) which actually work?

mmmmm mac600's, I dropped one of those on my foot the other week, bloody hurt like hell - not the lightest thing on earth (har har, spot the hilariously non-funny joke?)

a question why would you want to match it to gels by number, do it bye eye, thats the best way to tell I think, seeing as gels wear out aftr a certain period of time, in my case about a week... I mean if you get them set by eye, the audiance would generally not be able to tell between a 028 and a 030 for instance (dunno what colours they are, just using as an example).if you get your normal static on with the colour you want on the mac's you should be able to use the colour wheel to get the right one and then note down the number or code of it on a list against you lee filters, then you'll know for future reference... good idea? maybe

Here are the ones that I tend to refer to the most - some of them are a bit dodgy, but by and large they're a good starting point from which to work ...

Mac600 Lee equivalents

Mac600 Supergel equivalents

And if you're using a HogII (but I'm guessing you're not ... :o ), I have a show disk I could send you which has a lot of palettes in it for various colour-mixing units which are named and sorted by Lee Filters numbers, and which can be merged into your show before you start programming.

Err - so that you can match up with the gels in the rest of your lanterns and so that you can get the exact colour that you've chosen for your design. If your gels have worn out, then their replacement is overdue...

if you have WYSIWYG you can drop in the fixture and give it a colour using the libery, it will give you the gel number select it and then just take the values from there. also should work on the demo which is free online.

Hope this helps

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Matt - of course I would always match colours by eye, but it helps to have a starting point. If you type in the numbers given, even in the crap list I had before, it at least gets you somewhere near and makes fine tuning much easier.

Sorry I haven't been online to thank you all sooner but have been working shows. Had one in last night called 'Partly it's about love, partly it's about massacre'. V. impressed - funny and thought provoking at the same time. Doing a small tour and definitely worth a visit. Sorry, I don't work for them honest!

Am off to visit web sites mentioned above.
