  1. As others have said a DMX merge is what you need, but it becomes more complex, are you treating these channels as LTP or HTP for a start. Whilst I admire your students efforts I can't help they are re-inventing the wheel as there are many controllers that offer this functionality as standard without introducing to complexity of merging two different controllers.
  2. I don't think it's that much of a dilemma, why release a product when most companies are battening down spening based on uncertainty. Better use those marketing budgets when things are on the upturn than right now.
  3. If you're into old disco effects, you'll probably enjoy a browse of RML's extensive stock of retro gear. https://www.richardmartinlighting.co.uk/disco/
  4. Keep in mind this is an incredibly old post and things have changed a lot, the Capture version refered to in this post was released over a decade ago. Do you have any MA hardware attached to your onpc system that unlock parameters? If not then no amount of loopback adapters and changing connectivity options is going to help you. You cannot get ANY sort of output from an MA PC system without this. From what I understand there used to be a way of connecting MA with Capture without hardware but MA removed the ability to do this.
  5. It might be worth you looking at routers than can be reflashed with DD-WRT firmware. Very configurable and a great user base meaning there is plenty of support for what might be quirky configurations. Might not completely fit the bill for your needs but definetley worth a look.
  6. On the basis of which I presume they were 3-pin XLR cables, in which case you could point him in the direction of the DMX standards which stipulate 5-pin connectors should be used?
  7. I'd say it was successful, it was certainly out on plenty of tours and one off's in its heyday, remember you could only hire the system from LSD (now part of PRG) and at the time the were a big player! I believe the reason for the unique system of having a separate data pair per fixture from FOH was due to concern about infringing on a patent that Vari-Lite held. I loved the way they managed to name an interface UGLI, that and the tales of lighting cigarettes from the beam out of the Icon although I never witnessed it myself so could be an old wives tale!
  8. Sounds like the likely culprit is a duff igniter or at an outside chance the ballast. If you're confident with a multimeter then you can meter to see if you have mains voltage at the input to the igniter, if you do then that's your problem. A big word of caution though, you really don't want to be trying to meter the output of the igniter!
  9. Sounds like it could be that the unit in question has a problem with it's software. Not seen the exact same problem but one of ours had a spate of just sitting there with **** flashing, a re-flash of the software seemed to do the trick. Sadly you will need an uploader device to be able to re-flash the software either an MP-2 or the newer DABS1 to be able to do this. Can't comment on the PSU issue other than we've never had any problems with any of ours, although ours are some of the early models so probably missed the bad batch.
  10. Managed to find a picture of the Avo QM 500 TD for you to have a look at. http://www.avolites.org.uk/gallery/rogues/images/rg47.jpg
  11. Have you tried calling or emailing Avolites, there a very helpful friendly bunch!
