  1. I've forgotten the name of it but ETC showed their new remote focus software at PLASA.

You can draw a map of your stage/room and plot your lamps on it along with a reference point for the tablet/phone you are using as a remote. You then stick a corresponding QR code on the actual floor at the same point and scan it so the tablet knows where you are.

Once that's done (it was surprisingly quick) you can then tell the lights to 'find you' and they will follow. I was very impressed by the accuracy.

Although not it's intended purpose, they did reckon an actor could put a configured phone in their pocket and use the system as a follow spot.

Obviously quite dependant on how accurate your plot and map are but once done it seemed much better than the robospot camera system.

That would be ETC's Augment3d, not yet released: https://www.etcconnect.com/Products/Consoles/Eos-Family/Augment3d/FAQs.aspx

  2. The Dimmer Rack in the photo the OP included is a photo of a Strand CD80 Rack which was (is still?) a very common rack in North America. Strand still produces Dimmer Modules and replacement Processors for them. There were a few versions over the years (Reporter, Supervisor, etc.) and were first produced around 1980 (hence the CD80 name). One in a local theatre is still going strong after 25 years or so. They are quite robust but they don't last forever.

One source of parts is here: https://www.johnsonsystems.com/strand_cd_2000_3000.htm

I think Tony's non-dim idea seems most likely - and is as you said, set on the control end - BUT - could somebody have set a similar feature on your dimmers? I don't know them so can't say if they even have this feature.

Depending on the version, the CD80 Rack Processor (installed in the bottom of the rack, below the dimmer modules) can either recognise which Dimmer Modules in the rack are Non-Dims, or has to be told (it is a setting in the Processor). A local CD80 I use, for the Non-Dim to operate correctly, has to be told through the face panel menu if I move a Non-Dim from one slot to another in the rack.

Perhaps someone has been messing with the settings in the rack processor? Or it is on its way out...

  3. Our theater http://www.highlandartstheatre.com has 4 Martin MAC TW1 wash lights. Two have the optional Internal 80V Dimmer Module installed, and two have the Multi-voltage IGBT internal dimmer unit. We'd like to change them all to use the 80 volt lamp so we would like to find two of the (Martin Part No. 91614026) Internal 80V Dimmer Module Kits for a reasonable price.

Did I mention we are located in Nova Scotia, Canada?

We have been quoted CAN$ 1,376.00 per kit by a local vendor but I feel we may be able to find a couple out there for less thank that. Any suggestions?

Anyone scrapping a couple of these who would like to sell us the dimmer modules?
