  1. If you are used to The Strand GSX, a Zero88 FLX (full version) would be an ideal step. I found the transition very straight forward and the syntax lines made perfect sense.
  2. I will say I have never experienced this issue. I have around 17/18 of these units in use regularly. One quirk I have found is that if you have (for example) a 24 channel desk, you cannot put the fixture starting at 21. Even in 4 channel mode, it will not operate unless there are 'free' channels after the last 'attribute/fixture' channel.
  3. Looking for the following if anyone still has parts sat on shelf that they are hoping to move on. Sennheiser G2 rackmount kits and splitter/booster kits Sennheiser G3 rackmount kits and splitter/booster kits Thanks in advance
  4. This was indeed true to the original Minim. When the Minim series was relaunched a few years later, I believe the lamp capacity was upgraded. White version being 300w and Black version being 500w https://www.theatrecrafts.com/archive/documents/1_1_2_minim.pdf
  5. Hi have around 16 U'King fixtures (200w Par slim Metal type). https://www.uking-online.com/product/8-pcs-b117-par-can-4in1-rgbw-18-leds/ You have to take them for what they are, but the colour, brightness and quality for what you pay for them is actually really good. Are they as good as an ETC fixture? Ask the same question about a Budget Smart car compared with a Volvo XC60............. I haven't had no issue with them yet, I would say I have seen worse built fixtures that cost more to buy.......Use the fixtures for the right purpose and scenario and they may impress you.
  6. Hi Woolstore. What beam angle are they? Roughly what price per fixture would you be looking for? Regards

    1kw Fresnels

Agree with all of the above.
  11. I am involved as a director of a community theatre looking to get some additional lanterns for stock. Ideally looking to get lanterns that use GKV600 lamps (strand SL, Stand Brio or CCT Freedom) to match in with existing stock (to keep spare lamp stock to a streamline minimum). Are there any of these lanterns about at a decent price please?

I personally don’t think the Selecon Ramas are a patch on the 743’s. If you could repair/ do maintenance work on the 743’s that would be the best option.
  13. Not sure of your budget or if you prefer Powered or Passive Speakers, but the Yamaha DXR-8 Speaker is worth looking at.
  14. Got to admire his enthusiasm Nothing wrong with enthusiasm, it's all about getting the correct people involved for projects such as this, no matter how big or small. The main issue seems to be money. Some organisers don't care as long as they don't have to pay.
  15. Why do people take the risk doing these jobs, thats the question........
  16. Local Festival Rigging.....when you see it..... https://www.facebook.com/Elitesoundandvisual/photos/pcb.1507390816270744/1507390362937456/
  17. For a low budget situation, have you looked at the LEDJ 200 cob? Really wide beam angle, RGBW, 8 channel in basic mode, £169 each. https://prolight.co.uk/product/ledj490 I took a look at the LEDJ 200 Quad. It is very bright, smooth and wide. However the fan fires up quite quickly once there is light coming out, is a bit noisy compared to many and it doesn’t support RDM. (Although it lights up if it catches a sniff of an RDM discovery sequence). The RGBW saturation is probably no worse (or better) than other cheap non-calibrated fixtures. If I wanted a fixed angle wide wash and had a limited budget I’d consider them, but probably not for non-music theatre. Get on to Prolight and see if they can demo them. The fans are a little loud, but for the money they are decent enough if you are on a tight budget.

  19. I may be well off the mark here, but it could be an old FURSE Engineering track due to the colour. CCT Lighting bought out Furse in the late 80's so give them a call to see if they can shed any light.
  20. Maybe something like this would be worth looking at if you are on a budget. https://www.andertons.co.uk/live-pa/pa-systems/live-mixers/soundcraft-signature-12mtk-mixer-with-multitrack-usb-interface
  21. I have recorded Brass Bands and Orchestras several time using a pair of AKG 414 Microphones (amongst others). These microphones would suit the job best from the stock you have. Achieving the desired sound required can be a mixture of:- 1. Good Positioning, 2. Room Acoustics, 3. Spacing between players (phasing of sound waves and instruments can make a difference to the recorded sound) 4. An element of luck. Don't let this put you off. Ask the String group to 'rehearse' and as they are playing, don't be afraid to experiment and move the microphones around a little bit. The closer you place the microphones to the group, the more 'isolated' the recording will sound i.e. quite 'dead/dry'. The further away the microphone placement, a more 'Ambient' sound will be achieved, but too far away and it could sound 'thin/washy'. A separate 'isolated' room with monitors for you to hear the 'mic'd' sound would be an advantage before the recording actually begins. Definitely a great pattern to use, but remembering to have distance between the microphones and the sound 'source'. I normally would use ORTF with an additional centre mic to make sure any dead spot or 'hole' is covered - (depends on the pick-up axis of the main mics though).
  22. Zero88 FLX-s is the way to go for you. It will be quite familiar, but far more advanced and less 'clunky' than the Jester.
  23. Hi all, I am after some used Metal Clad 15amp sockets. If there are 4 available that would be great. Don't want to pay new prices as they are extortionate. Please PM if you can help. Thanks in advance.
  24. Would love to see this, as I have a few 'cheaper' 575w moving head spots that I was looking at turning to LED (potentially 180w chip). Let us know if you have any luck :-)

    Strand GSX

Have you tried leaving the desk switched off, but with Mains power to it for 30 minutes? I have an LBX that does similar to what you describe, but boots up fine in the end. No use for a rush job, but Im guessing has some uses......
