  1. Yep, ebay or FB, you may be surprised how much some obsolete kit is worth. For instance working Masterpieces are getting rarer as the batteries leak and damage the main PCB and there are enthusiasts who'll buy them.
  2. Sales people hey? The OP specifically said "Also not looking for any extended features. The simpler the better.". You seem to be attempting to sell them something that has "over 10 key features not found on other led pars" (by which I assume you mean 11 so presumbly they have more amazing features than the ones you list). And they also wanted "inexpensive" and "horrible cheap, plastic, three pin DMX ones you hate to use. I don't need anything nice" yet you're trying to sell them something for £224.39 (or sub £200 as you advertise it?!). Out of interest, where in the UK are these manufactured? I wish sales people would listen to what their potential customers actually want rather than trying to sell them something they retail. Anyone else feel the same? Sorry mods if this sounds grumpy.
  3. And from the Wikipedia page about Peugeot... "quickly started manufacturing saws; then other hand tools and, circa 1840 to 1842, coffee grinders; then, in 1874, pepper grinders; and then, circa 1880, bicycles.[10] The company's entry into the vehicle market was by means of crinoline dresses" And do I recall press articles about early manufacturing of Roboscans by Martin, I'm not sure the early units weren't constructed in a similar fashion, although admittedly the company would have had full control of the process. I certainly recall them proudly proclaiming reaching the milestone of making their 100,000th Roboscan. Several products down the line too.
  4. Sometimes called Disasterpieces by those of us who know how to program them and still use them. That Light Processor desk looks wonderfully retro with that matrix display.
  5. Surely @adam2 you're after a 9 way version not an 8 way as otherwise your caterers will have to unplug something to be able to plug their radio in? Sorry...
  6. Thanks for your replies 4.5 years ago! Think I'd missed them at the time. In order... Powercon are indeed significantly smaller than 16A Ceeform but unfortunately quite a lot more expensive. The screw and wingnut replacement would also need to be relateively similar cost - I'm aware Doughty do various things including a folding clamp, but not for only a few pence each! Mac's Sling Socks might be exactly what I need. And I've finally found IP LED pinspots available in the UK - I'd bought a Eurolite 10w one from Thomann for £51 as a test last year and have just found a very similar unit, rated at 5w but not yet tried alongside the 10w one, for under £20 each - https://www.electrovision.co.uk/public/template-product-details.php?product_id=G019GB so may be stocking up with some more of them.
  7. Yep, not seen any at a sensible price yet. I can afford them, that's not the issue, it's just that I'd prefer to not pay 4 times what I paid previously. Clearly I've reached that age... I've only looked at list prices, not got any proper quotes yet. I don't use more than 2 at a time often enough to really justify replacing them, I'll have to get them out earning their keep! Was only a rough calculation to get a ballpark figure for the actual shipping cost per unit, I know an importer will have all sorts of things rammed in a box to make it worth their while.
  8. OK, thanks - at 8k for a container that fits roughly 384 x 50cm mirrorballs that's £21 per unit for shipping, which goes some way to that increase but nowhere near all of it. So I either need to accept it, or wait another year or 2 to see if shipping (and therefore retail [yeah, right!]) prices come down... I'm also aware that the price I'd paid 15 years ago seemed ridiculously good value at the time for an item that even then was quite frankly underpriced by all retailers. I've now got the issue of deciding whether to stick with 10mm facets to match my others or spend just a little more to get 5mm facets which look better. First world problems hey.
  9. Thanks all and I appreciate you're all much more regular contributors on here than me, but I was specifically asking about LX equipment rather than how inflation is affecting any number of other parts of our lives. ImagineerTom - not sure why I typed 'lightweight', I certainly meant low value! I'd heard rumours of costs for shipping a container from the Far East going up by 7-10 times back in the pandemic but didn't know if they'd stayed at those levels. So my original question still stands, anyone know if the 300% inflation over 15 years is specific to mirrorballs or is other LX kit subject to similar increases?
  10. OK, I've recently had a few issues with some of my 50cm mirrorballs (one self destructed when it got damp and shed far too many facets to be worth repairing, another is just looking really rough as loads of facets are sticking out at weird angles and it's clearly about to self-destruct, and a third self destructed this week by rolling itself off the admittedly slightly precarious position I'd put it in whilst I delved in the bottom of the box to retrieve a few facets that had come off). So I thought I'd splash out on some replacements, but have been shocked to find they now cost over 4 times as much as when I got them in 2008. Now I realise prices always rise, but an inflation calculator shows a rise of 50% since then, not the 300+% inflation that mirrorballs have been subject to. Anyone know if this is specific to mirrorballs (potentially to do with increased transport costs for a large lightweight item), or am I just out of touch and all LX kit has soared way above inflation? I used to add a 30cm mirrorball to small orders from various suppliers if it helped take it over the threshold for free delivery, but don't think I'll be doing that now!
  11. And I've got a pair of Patt 49s in Hampshire, no idea how I'd get them to you though. Pic shown against 137 for size.
  12. Quite simply this ad is to give you Blue Roomers first dibs at these before they go on ebay so quick responses please otherwise they might go elsewhere... I recently snapped up an ebay bargain of 4 Source 4 zooms which had been badly listed and sold for far less than they could have. I bought them purely to speculate and make a few quid on them. The last 15-30s on ebay sold for £450 each! Ouch. I'm wanting £250 each for these which is pretty fair considering the current price new from Thomann is £999. These are covered in dust but I'll clean them up properly (inside and out) and check them over, I literally put them in the car and then dropped them at my unit on the way back last night, but at first glance they look in very good condition. Didn't notice if they include gel frames, I'll update this once I've had a chance to check them. No clamps, no idea about lamps. They were installed in a church so probably haven't moved much. Obviously that price assumes they're all ok!! Collection preferred from near Winchester or Salisbury but may consider shipping. No VAT. So roll up, roll up folks, start showing your interest!!
  13. If I remember their history correctly, Coemar lights used to be made by Robe, who are now one of the major manufacturers in their own right, whose UK base happens to be in Northampton. Now I wouldn't expect them to want to deal with servicing another manufacturer's obsolete kit (which these pretty much are to be honest), but it might be worth a call. especially as you're local to them. Alternatively, try Jamie Shurlock who is a member on here but you'd have to get them to him in Colchester.
  14. I see they've not exactly engineered that Cyberlight for light weight have they?! Slightly ironic name in my opinion. Just had a very quick look at the specs compared to the Robe Silverscan which is less than half the weight and about 75% as bright, although with a few less features. And it's still as massive as the old scans. Can we arrange a BR test with 1 of each, a Zarges and Stuart91 to see how he gets on with rigging them both? One thing I've always liked about moving mirrors is that the beam always comes from all but the same position, whereas with heads the point at which the light actually comes out the unit moves around, especially noticeable with a line of fixtures close together running for instance alternate pans or tilts movements. And talking of nostalgia, I noticed the Robe product video started with the intro of Insomnia! Oh, and does anyone else think the 35 degree tilt that Robe claim seems odd?
  15. You may also find that you can sell a handful for reasonable money but shifting 50 is realistically going to be a case of taking whatever you get offered. I think that 3 channel had been listed loads of times - I paid £10 each for some 3 channel ones last year.
  16. I'd have thought it was still worth enough to sell as faulty, or get it back to Chamsys who are only down in Southampton to assess if it's economically repairable. It seems to me that you're throwing money away by giving it away. Hopefully DrV has snatched a bargain.
  17. To the OP, my answer is the same as I put in the original thread (and mods, is there any way to combine this with the original thread as it seems daft to have 2?). Your family and friends won't care what lights you have, just something whizzing around to give atmosphere is all that matters, so probably any of them will do the job. And as also mentioned in the original thread you'd do better to sort out mounting them so they cover the areas you want them to point rather than worrying too much about exactly what tilt angles are available. Half the specs will be inaccurate with that anyway. And in reply to all the off topic chat, I'd agree with the previous post - I could see chaos, but hoped that the transition period may help in preventing it. How naive of me...
  18. Hi all, Long shot I know but I'm after 2 x 60cm and up to 10 x 30cm panels to make complete sets with existing stock. I'm not prepared to pay much for them as I rarely use the things anyway and paid very little for the ones I've already got, but it would be nice to make them up to complete sets of 12 if possible! Please let me know if you happen to have any odd ones knocking around. Thanks, Mark
  19. Also if you're only after a small quantity, it may be worth asking some marquee companies, lots of them use Par38s in their uplighters, mostly 80w but some 120w but quite a lot have changed over to LED but could well have 120w gathering dust in a corner somewhere.
  20. That's a much better clip of the actual failure than on the BBC article I'd seen, and at the start of the 2nd clip (around 55 seconds in) you can see that the cables were already in the process of failing, the white paint was missing where some strands had already pinged, so presumably the drone had purposely been put up to look at the failure as it progressed. I like how if you look at the aerial view of Arecibo and zoom out, it looks like it's in the middle of nowhere in otherwise virgin forest, but then you realise that it's only a few km from the coast and civilisation and you can see the creep where roads and homes have gradually snaked into the forest.
  21. I see the OP may have this sorted, but if it's of help to anyone else I believe Jamie Shurlock may have some 23Fs. With regard to the blow torch, I vote for leaving the flickering lamp in it. And I've got a couple of almost identical blow torches ready for restoration if anyone's interested. Except they're not in the same sort of condition, more like something that could have been raised from a Spanish galleon, they're rather rusty!
  22. I have no idea about the technical aspects and no interest but I've just spent a few minutes looking for image repetition in that photo! And yes, there's a pattern, I reckon there are 7 rows of 14 images wide, each line offset by 1.
  23. Link to BBC article Not sure if this used a fog machine, but at least Trading Standards in Cambridgeshire can see it's theatre...
  24. No personal experience but I've got some IP LED pars from this brand which I'm very happy with, and was given a sensible and significant discount when I asked. Spec claims 25 degree beam angle, so still rather spotty but better than some. My link
  25. Looks good. I had a similar story when I took on my unit 4 years ago, Opus were the existing electricity supplier and I had the rather large charges for a short while as I sorted out who to go with, but I ended up sticking with them as I negotiated a satisfactorily low daily charge as I knew I'd be using very small amounts of power and there was no minimum consumption. Modest increase at the end of the 3 year contract but not significant enough for me to faff around for another supplier.
