I've had that issue with a faulty current sensor and/or ballast. As soon as you start replacing that many components on it sometimes makes more sense financially to retire it as a parts unit. Robe's tech support is great, find out who your local distributor is and give them a ring, They might just be able to send you in the right direction and even have parts available from their parts unit if you op to still fix it up.

Yes, I often use heatshrink for XLRs , but have yet to meet something that will go over a 15A plug or socket & then shrink onto the cable :huh:

I just finished a batch of 30 truecon extensions that I got for cheap on an auction that needed labelling, took the time to check connections are still secure on the cables while I adding labels to them. Especially now with the downtime it's as good as a time as any to check cables. I had some 6:1 heatshrink in stock a while a go that could fit over bigger connectors and if you pull out the pins on your 15A plug you can fit the heatshrink over. Otherwise another alternative I've seen is a barcode on the side of your plug/socket with some proper clear tape.

Clear heathsrink. There's some with a pretty crazy shrinking ratio that could fit over xlr connectors. I add clear heatshrink to all of my cables that I later on shrink over a label once it's been inventoried.

Going SMD is certainly something you could look at. And after our recent tweak to resistor values it'll reduce the number of feeders on your P&P machine.

 

I think there are a couple of components that might cause an issue...

 

The FET is carefully chosen,not sure if it's available in SMD.

 

Ditto the opamp which drives the headphones. It was chosen because of its high output drive capability and its ability to tolerate shorts etc, an ordinary opamp won't cut it. But, if you went SMD it could be replaced with an ordinary opamp with an output stage beefed up with a couple of transistors. I have a design for such a thing that I've used over the years.

 

What P&P do you have? I'm always on the lookout for people who can do small production runs for my own work.

The pick and placer is one from Charmingh. Got a great deal on it from a friend that bought it and then ended up changing direction with his manufacturing business. It's a 4 head and 30 pneumatic feeder model. I just finished a batch of controller pcb's with about 20 different SMD components in the BOM and it worked a treat. I spent some time last night looking at SMD equivalent parts. Some of them will have to stay through hole but the less hand soldering I need to the better haha. The led's I can do SMD and 3D print a light tunnel for the surface mount led's to be viewable from the panel. Welcome to send some pcb's to have assembled I'm based out of south africa so shipping might be more expensive than ordering it assembled from JLCPCB.

I did some searching through this topic and couldn't find a bill of materials for RS components or digikey, has anyone made one yet?.

I'll gladly compile one if it hasn't been made up yet and will also include any PCB alterations to allow the components to work.

Also want to check if anyone modified it to work with SMD components yet? Want to try and get it down as small as I can to use with camera's and also itching to use the new pick and place machine. Will also post progress on getting it smaller with SMD components.
