  1. A couple things to try. Presume you have checked that Fuse on the Power PCB.  There is a thermal trip under the Heat Exchanger which could be the problem. There are some really early Uniques (pre 2001) that have really very different Metal Work so tricky to Service if PCBs required but this has not stopped us yet from servicing Unique1's successfully.

  2. If this was a Unique or Tourhazer, then spitting is always caused by the Air Pump which may work perfectly at full output but at low output may become sporadic due to the inside getting soaked in condensed haze. This is a common problem and we often change the A. Pumps and keep loads in stock for this reason. However I don't know the Chauvet Hazer at all so ignore this !! Also we only recommend flushing them (Look & Smoke Factory machines) thru with Distilled Water only (not de-ionised) and certainly no vinegar.
  3. On a related note, our unique 2 hazer is getting quite buzzy. Any suggestions what it's likely to be - air pump, fan motor, or something else?

Not sure what you mean by 'buzzy'. Do you have a Unique, Unique2 or 2.1 ? Is it 'buzzing' when just turned on or actually outputting Haze ? If it is 'clicking' then that's the Fluid Pump trying to suck in Fluid. Regards

  4. The Fluid Pumps are 240volt. Shame you bought a new one, we just plug them into 240volts and they either work or don't. The voltage is pulsed to the Fluid Pump and so the higher the % on the Display, the faster the clicks of the Fl.Pump. Not sure what actual voltage they get. The Air Pumps are also 240volts however they do weaken over time as they often draw in Haze, rather than fresh air, especially in enclosed spaces such as nightclubs. The Haze condenses inside the Air Pump and weakens it so that it starts to 'splutter' at low levels ie 20% or less, then eventually dies. So you could also supply 240volts direct to the A.Pump to test it, even if it works it does not mean that at lower voltages it will properly. However neither of these issues should cause the HE to overheat and trip.

If the HE is actually glowing Red (disasterously) it means the wires of the thermocouple are touching each other somewhere probably at he connection to the Display CPU. If it isn't, and is just tripping, then I would guess it is a PCB issue and could be either the Power PCB or the Display CPU and these are not cheap.

We can send a Service Manual if you think it would help - let us know. Happy to take a look for free and diagnose if you can get it to us. Also if you want an old Air Pump which has come out of a repair, just to try out, let us know and we'll get one in the post. Regards PS we would need the Serial Number or last 4 digits of it as the Air Pumps changed in 2009 as did the Fan.

  5. Anyone know anything about Miltel gobos - I keep coming across them in boxes of old gobos and wondered who they were and what happened to them. Some of the designs are really interesting, but I've not seen them elsewhere so I don't think the range got bought by another company. Some of them are octagonal shaped, rather than the usual circular.

    Thanks

I'm pretty sure they got purchased/taken over by Rosco. I know I've seen some Miltel designs in their catalogue.

Miltel Gobos were first bought by RB Lighting in the mid 1990's but then they passed on the designs to DHA who then merged with Rosco as correctly stated by earlier correspondant. Rosco do not produce every Miltel Design as they needed to streamline their own range with both DHA and Miltel.

  6. The Smoke Factory Tourhazer2 is a good reliable machine and comes complete in a Flightcase but is certainly not cheap (smokefactoryuk@btinternet.com for details). I do some freelance repair work on Tourhazers and Uniques and can recommend both machines.

    Hi,

Can anyone please recommend a good reliable hazer. It will be mostly for use in medium to small indoor venues. I currently have a couple of Chauvet Hurricanes however the haze/fan outputs are not as adjustable as I would like i.e. a small amount of haze constantly for the evening. It seems it is all or nothing so results in me having to keep switching on and off. Any ideas much appreciated.

  7. Yes just checked and that is exactly what they will supply - there Male/Female terminology applies to the 15 or 16 amp connectors not the Soca. Better safe than sorry. Thanks all.
  8. Thanks for all the replies. Yes I always use Fan In/Out when specking but this morning was just checking a well known SW London LX Provider's Pick List for a job next Friday, and get this on Page 7 and wonder what will turn up on site. Guess I will call them !
