  1. I've been trying to find a circuit symbol for SPDT push switch where both outputs are NO (center off double reactive). I've tried and failed with Google possibly because I'm searching for the wrong thing, given they are fairly easy to buy I assume there is a standard symbol for them that someone can point me at before I make up my own!

Noted. Might be worth getting your invoice in ahead of the job.

This has its own issues where I work Accounts Receivable would reject this before it got to someone who could approve an invoice for payment. Agreement in advance is probably the only real protection becuase I suspect in reality without that the big company with the in house legal team will genrally suffer less even if they don't actually win the "battle of the forms"

Interesting article. Rather suggests that anything written in a PO will always be superseded by the subsequent invoice.

That wasn't my understanding as later on in the document it says terms and conditions printed on invoices are unlikely to form part of the contract and the wider section implies the invoice won't help as it would be after the service was provided.

An interesting read. Shows the importance of agreeing terms and getting the agreement written into the specific contract.

I think this is probably the major takeaway from this. Especially if your a small business dealing with a larger one who are likely to have an in house commercial or legal team that's likely all over this stuff.

When I was running my (unrelated to theatre) business all my quotes contained my T&C's, one clause of which said that my T&C's were the definitive set for this contract.

Unfortunately the PO you recived would be seen as a counter offer and is likely to have a very similar clause. In the battle of the forms the last circulated normally wins. More detail here because as always with the law there are edge cases.

Trying to explain that you wanted to programme it for "an upcoming show" might make it even harder to convince them that it is "personal"

Not just that telling them that you want to work while in the country might raise some questions about tax and if you have the correct visa (not sure exactly what the status is in the EU for this)

One last question, how feasible is event work in evenings and the weekend while working a 9-5 day job? I’m thinking this would be challenging but would be interested in some first had experience.

Even assuming you find work as Tom says you might be able to, your full time employer may take a dim view of you do so regularly. Most contracts will require you to declare outside work to ensure a) a lack of conflict of interest and b) to ensure compliance with the working times directive.  If your doing a 37-40 hour week and then doing another 2-3 hours every evening it's not that unlikely that the tiredness will start to impact your performance and or safety so think carefully about this route.

  7. I use homeassitant and its great for what it is a home automation tool. I also have used a number of different smart lamps, WiFi, zigbee, zwave and proprietary interfaces and one thing I would say is common with all of them is sometimes they choose not to respond or respond slowly. If this effect is an added bonus then by all means use kit aimed at the home automation market. If its critical to the installation then I'd seriously suggest looking at using something controlled with DMX or wired back to some sort of custom controller.

Quite so (similar problem with TuneUp Utilities) Unfortunately my 2 main laptops are now Win 10, but I think I have a copy on an XP machine. I'm just curious as to what this "ms-gamingoverlay link" is meant to do.

Pretty sure it's the xbox game bar overlay which allows you to screenshot and interact with some chat services etc.

This is the rarer King version of the Simon Polecat PEU (pole erection unit) and is the only vid I can find so far showing a very brief shot of fitting a step. The modern contractors seem to erect the stick then send along a MEWP to fit the pole furniture.

That was really interesting to watch. I was supprised at the lack of concrete, does anyone know if that was because this was a demo or if telephone poles arent normally concreted into place? (sorry for the derail)

It's huge and swallows up everything you put in it. Which isn't always a good thing as I found out when I first packed it. Too many 'oh, that might be useful' moments. Boy, was it heavy!

Based on your question and the subsequent recommendations I got one too and agree its very easy to over load. However I am impressed at its stability even when it has an odd weight distribution which makes setting down much easier than previous bags I've had.

  11. HDMI protocol has coding for turning screens on or off and forcing screens to switch to displaying the particular input the command is coming from so even quite a cheep flatscreen TV should be capable of doing what you want to do provided you've got a controller/replay box that is spitting out proper HDMI

I lived in the far East for a few years and noticeably my TV and those of my colleagues and frinds didn't support this. They were newer than models that in UK would have done, so if your looking at lower cost no name units it's worth double checking this feature is there before purchase.

  12. A signing in sheet is not something that needs to be stored for future use and filed away. If they are simply shredded once people have gone, then no personal data has been filed or stored. The purpose of signing in sheets is to see who is currently in the building, not who was in the building last Wednesday!

I'm not sure I'd agree with that, especially if you are collecting a parents signature to say who has collected them. This is something you may want to produce after the fact if something has happened to the child after they left your care to a) prove they have left your care and b) who took care of them at the time. I would of thought that you would want to keep this for a reasonable amount of time and they destroy inline with a well thought out destruction schedule.
