  1. Hi all, I've had this laserr fixture knocking around for ages. Managed to get it to do some stuff by just setting the address to 1 and seeing what channels do, but would be good to find a manual or DMX profile for it if anyone could help? Thanks
  2. Hi all, I've been playing around with companion a bit and ghave got it successfully talking to the lighting desk, sound desk and vmix. My question is, is there any way to set a fade time on a fader level control to the allen & heath qu16. Using the input level control, I can set the fader level to go to -inf dB but is there a way to get it to fade to that level over x number of seconds rather than snapping? Thanks
  3. Hi all, As the title says, can someone point me in the direction of some relatively inexpensive rigging gloves. Just something to make it more comfortable then handling lighting fixtures, staging, truss, moving equipment around etc. I don't know what's a good brand from a bad one. Thanks!
  4. Thanks for the replies people. Yeah reading the meter is an option but as we're a school there could be a lot else on at the same time. Lots of classroom lighting, computers etc although we could take reading one day over a time period when we're not using the lighting then another day when we are and look at the difference as Andrew C says. Yeah I've had the tea urn issue, 15 minutes before curtain up, not fun, didnt knock out the lighting, but sound, projection, everything else!
  5. Thanks both, it's useful to know I was on the right lines. Like I said its just rough numbers in my head to get an idea of what power we actually use going forward and that I wasn't over thinking the calculations.
  6. Hi all, I want to get some rough figure of how much is costs electricity wise to run our lighting but things like this always confuse me. If I had 1 1000w parcan running at 100% for 1 hour, would this mean it would be 1kwh x electricity unit cost (which is usually given in kW per hour isn't it)? If it was only running at 50% for 1 hour would that be 0.5 x electricity unit cost? If an LED fixture was rated at 148w, would that be 0.148 x electricity unit cost? Just trying to calculate a rough cost for electricity usage, not total cost of ownership ie maintance/servicing etc. Thanks in advance
  7. Thanks for all the replies. I'll have a word with the department and see which way they want to go. It might be an option to buy used but on the other hand they may want new for added values of warranty etc. Valuable input thanks!
  8. Yeah tbh I have never done that, always thought the recievers should be with me so I can see what's going on. Have a hard wired snake in place in one of our spaces already so will try that sometime.
  9. The shennheisers are still in one piece, just seem to get a lot of interference when we have a room full of people. I want some headset ones rather than handhelds for drama performances. With any equipment like that, I keep it locked away when not in use, get it out and prepped, it goes on the user, then comes off and straight back to me as soon as the show is over. Yeah radio mics for a school has always been a case of hire in when needed, but there's so many occasions where people ask me for ones these days where we would get good use out of having our own, and I've been allocated this money as a one off, not out of departments budgets so I think its worth it. The department can't stretch to 200 odd quid to hire a set every time we want to use some. There's 4 sets of exam pieces every year plus 3 music concerts so that's over a grand a year if we hired some every time, which we don't. Just want to get something that will last if well looked after for the money I have avaliable.
  10. Hi, I have been given a small pot of money for our performing arts department to purchase some now gear and the head of department and myself both think that wireless mics would be the best use for us. We currently have 3 old shennhiser g2 handhelds which operate on the free license, 863.... We don't often use them as they have been quite unreliable with interference. I'm looking at getting some with headsets and beltpacks that would be used for our GCSE and A Level exams plus small scale lower school productions and some vocal performances at music concerts. I've spoken to my usual supplier who's told me to have a look at JTS as a brand. Ones I have picked out are the JTS RU-8012DB - https://cpc.farnell.com/jts/ru-8012db-ru-g3tb-cm-501-ch38/bp-dual-radio-system-ch38/dp/MP35784?st=Jts wireless I'm looking to get 2 of these units, so 4 mics in total plus some headsets and license etc. Can anyone offer any advice as to are they worth it etc, what are the pitfalls.... Thanks
  11. Think I figured it out. I had to raise the channel fader on the main L+R mix, even though the mix was muted, then I got the effect coming through on the mix outputs. maybe there's a routing setting somewhere that means I don't need to do this?
  12. Hi all, I'm struggling to get any of the inbuilt fx to come through on my mix outputs. Using the normal process I can get them on the main L+R output but when I raise the fx1 or 2 return fader on my min 19+10 output I don't get an fx. I have read through the manual but must be missing something. I have tried all sorts of things, too many to list here, but playing with the routing, assigning the fx to the mix outputs.. Can anyone think of the simple thing I must be missing? Thanks
  13. Hi all I have an A&H I-DR8 unit with a PL-10 connected to it. Channels 1&2 are grouped together for the L&R input from a PC. When I mute this group using the button on the PL unit and then unmite again, one of the channels is not unmuting, however if I open the idr8 software on a pc and mute the input channel, and unmute again both channels unmute. Does anyone know where I can even start looking at this issue as I'm not familiar with the unit or the software. Thanks
  14. I use vMix for all my projection stuff. It handles a variety of inputs - videos, live cameras, PowerPoint, images, audio, anything you can think off really. It can output to multiple displays, graphics card depending, so you can have different things outputting on different displays. Controll can be from the pc or Web interface, I tend so setup all the shortcuts I need on a streamdeck for handy controll Also does live streaming similar to OBS when required. Very reliable and great support. (I do not work for vmix or any reseller!)
  15. Thanks for replying, that was a good shout with the time. It was set wring on the router but could not be changed as its one that gets its time from the Internet but of course had no Internet connection. It turns out I, when I first opened the app I had said it can't discover devices on the network, uninstall and reinstalled and said allow when the message popped up and it all worked again. Thanks
  16. Hi all Last time I connected my iPad to my qu16 it all worked flawlessly, that was a year or so ago, this time it is not! I am recieving the error connection failed - connection error when selecting the user. They are both connected to the router fine, I can browse to the routers config on the ipad and the qu is showing me a valid ipaddress in the status. The ipad doesn't find the qu when I open the app so I have to type the ipaddress in, then after selecting the user level I get the above error. The manual states that the error meant more than 8 devices are connected bug that us not the case. Obviously tried restarting router, ipad and desk. Firmware is upto date on the desk and the app is up to date on the ipad. There is nothing else connected to the network. The only real difference to last time it worked is the iOS version. The router is a very old Belkin one and doesn't support AES so I'm wondering if iOS is blocking it. Any ideas would be appreciated Thanks
  17. Hi all, Sorry if there has been a post about this before, I couldn't find one. As the title suggests, who do you follow on social media (related to the profession of course)? I used to follow jldjuk when he was still active and learnt a lot from him. He have great reviews of equipment and vlogs of shows he was doing . So does anyone follow people like that, who give insight into shoes they are doing, product reviews etc? Mainly looking for people on youtube. Thanks
  18. Second vote for cpc and gear4music. My budget for performing arts tech is pretty non existent but when I do get the chance or need to purchase anything I find them both to be very competitive on price.
  19. Thanks for the useful replies, just wanted to see what other people could come up with apart from the obvious ones like stage crew, tech crew etc but just went with tech crew in the end. Thanks
  20. @GR1 - I work in the school and even in the informal setting of the production environment we tend not to use members of staffs first names, but a nick name would be ok
  21. Hi, We have been given the opportunity to have some branded clothing for a production we're working on for next year with the option of having our nickname on it. I dont know what name to put on mine. I will be lighting rigger, programmer and operator with a bit of designing. The director thinks I should have mine as "LX Legend" but I do want to seem obnoxious to the rest of the crew so wanted something a bit more subtle without using my real name. Any suggestions? What do you guys get put on the clothing if you have the same kind of thing? Thanks
