  1. Hi all,

Been a long while since I have been on here - hope you are all keeping well.

I stumbled across this lamp sypplier in the Netherands, https://www.proflamps.com/uk/en/contactus.php and wondered if anyone has used or had dealings wtih them - they seem to have some very keenly priced 20Rs, but I don't want to buy a bag of problems.

I know if things are too good to be true, they probably are, but thought it would be worth an ask!Cheers!

I've used them several times for unusual or hard to get lamps (pre Brexit).

Some of their lines have long lead times (I suspect some of their lamps are made in small batches at irregular intervals), but I was always advised what that lead time would be.

No problems with the actual lamps or shipping.

Wouldn't hesitate to use them again for lamps I couldn't find in the UK, although I suspect post brexit shipping and Vat / Duty may be more complicated.

  2. I think it's fair to say it's an old product after all it was released in the last millennium, and there are still manuals etc available on their website.

Last firmware version appears to be version 2.2, with the last manual revision being D.

  3. Evening Blue Roomers.

After a second opinion. We have had a truss corner damaged somehow, at the end of last years summer season.

The damage looks like it is be beyond repair, see photos and we in the process of getting it replaced.

The damage is a deep cut that has put about a 2mm into the side wall of the Truss and various scratches in the same location, It hasn't pierced through the tube. The truss is AluStage's Q290.

Been told by our chippy who welds, he could just weld it over and that would seal the damage but just wanted to get a 2nd opinion on if its safe to do so in the UK Event Environment, as I think it would be seem as a modification and void the certification on the part.

As I have always been trained damage truss, once damaged doesn't have a repair path just straight to metal recycling and replace it. If it is ok to weld it, I may get it welded and keep as a spare.

    Thanks in advance

    Is it repairable - probably

Could you find a company who could do it and certify it so everyone's insurance companies were happy with the result at less than the cost of a replacement (even for a custom part) - probably not

I'd just buy a replacement (and I have a specialist welder on my team certified for for structural work)

  4. Having found my oldest Furse catalogue which comes from between 1966 and 1970 there is no flood of this kind listed at that time. The junior floods resembled Strand and there was an Horizon Flood which had a curved reflector housing and a 1KW unit which was square with a chimney in the top. There is nothing like the picture in the OP. That's not to say they aren't Furse but if they are they must be earlier. Don't forget they may be Major but there are other firms forgotten about these days like RR Beard, now Photon Beard, Holophane still in lighting and VenrecO. Blackburn, Starling & Co are also mentioned in some books

I believe Holophane didn't resume production of theatre lighting after the war, although last time I checked they were still producing industrial lighting.

I think Blackburn and Starling only ever produced control gear (and still are but again not for theatre).

  5. Anyone able to help me identify these floods? Suspect ancient strand of 40s era? Around 150w (when they work...). They are on lower able battens - but access is difficult!

Not Patt 49 9of any type) as they don't have the chimney.

  6. I'm wondering when standard fresnels became worthy of the term 'legacy'. Unless they are completely shot to pieces and electrically dangerous. Or were awful fresnels to begin with.

Unless you have a huge budget AND what you use them for has dramatically changed, why not keep & cherish them until you can no longer buy spare bulbs? By then it is just possible that there might be affordable LED equivalents with a lifetime of even a tiny fraction of that of a decent halogen Fresnel.

We all talk about the availability of bulbs, what about gel?

Until about 6 months ago it seemed the choice in gel always seemed to be getting bigger, Lee have discontinued one range, some colours in their standard range have been discontinued and my supplier says that some whilst on the Lee's list are not currently available until (if) they make some more.

Obviously other ranges / suppliers are available but I can only see colour choice going down.

  7. Hi,

Wanted for a project, Strand effect projector (Patt 51 / 52 / 252 etc) slide equipment

i.e. F150 Turntable front and Slide carrier

    F154 Turntable front

    F156 Universal Slide carrier

Please message me if you have any surplus.

    Thanks

    Shane
