  1. Check out David Fitch Services at www.davidfitchservices.com

They aren't cheap but there are a few about - £200+ each. (most likely New/Old Stock)

We are looking at alternative short arcs in some of our follow spots at HSLC to keep them going.

As PaulEars mentioned earlier, it's a problem. However, we are working on different ways to keep arcs in old follow spots.

We are on FB and tend to put on there what we do - We have just tried out an old Patt 265 MkII 400w CSI vs a converted Patt 265 MkII 400w MSR single-ended. Interesting results.

Best of luck and don't give up! 🙂

All the linear halogen LED replacement lamps are rubbish though. The light output is a fraction of what you get from the halogen tube, and they won't dim sensibly either.

I quite agree with you on that one Tim 👍

Fair point Tim but part of my post is awareness raising as we are concerned about the smaller semi or non professional venues that may not have the awareness most of us do about the future of their lighting kit

    Even R7s are under notice!

It's great about the awareness David, but I would say, it's the cost of replacing halogen units for LED - also replacement of dimmers and control etc. especially if the village hall type of venues only put productions on a few times a year. Is there any guidance for these venues on raising the capital or where to obtain the funding they need?

I have found that some halls have other financial priorities and end up de-commissioning the kit they have and scrapping it, then end up with a couple of stands with crappy LED units expecting to light a full show.

I remember being interviewed some years ago from the 'Save Stage Lighting' campaign with the EU and I wasn't filled with confidence that our community halls were going to have a say or even be thought of.

It's a real shame as these village halls can inspire a young person to develop their creative skills in the art of lighting and work towards joining our industry.

On a side note, there are quite a few varieties of R7s 78mm & 118mm LED replacement bubbles now and China seem to be manufacturing quite a few T/H and short arc bubbles too, at reasonable costs. I do hope our village and community halls are encouraged to keep their affordable legacy kit a bit longer before it heads to landfill.

  4. I'm wondering if anyone might be able to help me out. I'm on the hunt for some old/original Minim barndoors, and I was hoping that someone here might have some lying around or know of someone who's looking to get rid of a couple. Any leads would be greatly appreciated! 😊

A fireman was killed and 107 injured, 84 needing hospital treatment back in 1989 after a truck delivering to Le Maitre Fireworks blew up while using a totally innocent plant hire company's yard to turn around in. ICI/Nobel Explosives were fined £250,000 back then. HSE published a detailed report.

The report was an interesting read. I didn’t realise what a chequered past they had.

  6. T18 (500w) mentioned above, Stage Elecs, etc., still have some in stock.

I'm sure you are mindful of over-lamping. Keep to the manufacturer's recommendation as this will keep the units working safely.

I have 16 of these (rascals) units both Minum 23 and F's all had heavy use over time with T18s in them. A couple of them got particularly warm when the bubbles were on the way out. They would also burn any colour put in front of them at 500w. They used to have A1/244 (500w) raylight bubbles in them which was ideal.

    Hope you find some.

Glad you've got it sorted. Out of curiosity - because I can't remember! - is it the same 'TOK3' or 'TOK4' key as Strand used on Galaxy & Gemini desks?

Thanks Gareth. It's the TOK4 key I have. I thought it was the same for the Galaxy. However Galaxy manual says in the first bit TOK3 then further down it says TOK4!! ** laughs out loud ** must both the same key. I can't get to my M24 desk as its in storage to see what key that has, maybe that's a TOK3.
