  1. Thanks Jon.

GDS used to do an OEM version of the outstation, without the metal package, which is ideal for us, as I can fit those to the the eight doors (!) and re-use the current ones as temporary ones.

We have shows in all venues currently in the mad rush to complete everything before the end of term. I should be able to look at one once the activity is done.

  2. I have a couple of older GDS prompt desks, and am in need of more cue light outstations for them. I am aware that GDS sold the IP for their cue light systems to ETC some time ago, but ETC no longer support this system, rather opting for redesigning as CueSpider outstations.

Does anyone have any bright ideas?

E2A: The existing outstations are 3pin XLR.

  3. I currently have 4 off ex-RNT DHA 6-lamp DLC units, flight cased in 8-lamp cases with a bunch of spare scrolls, LightTalk interfaces and cables, and a small amount of spare parts.

They have been severely tilt limited via LightMoves, and I do not have a Mac with serial port or the LightMoves interface.

If anyone would like them, they are free to collect. Otherwise they will be going to silicon heaven.

  7. Technician

    Salary £23,165 inclusive

Rose Bruford College is a leading provider of specialist, vocational BA degree programmes in all aspects of theatre and live performance.

The successful candidate will be part of a team of Technical Instructors providing technical and logistical support for the College's teaching, production and related activities, and the supervision of students and others using the College's teaching and production facilities.

You will have a broad range of skills and experience across lighting, visualisation, sound, stage technologies and stage management.

The successful candidate will be able to balance the conflicting demands of a busy working environment, and have a strong commitment to working with and supporting students, as well as being organised, reliable and proactive.

The ability to work both independently and as a member of a team, and to bring enthusiasm and dedication to the role, is essential.

We are proud of our legacy but also need, and intend, to do much more to respond o the unacceptable lack of diversity within Higher Education and the creative industries. D/deaf and disabled young people, those from a Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) background, care leavers, mature students, and those from a low socio-economic background, and under-represented. This imbalance has a knock-on effect on society: excluding viewpoints; disenfranchising talented artists; and deepening societal divisions.

Much more needs to be done to put diversity and the perspectives of under-represented groups at the heart of the creative industries. To address this, we have decided to make a step-change in the way that we operate. Over the next five years, we will undergo a strategic transformation to provide a completely inclusive, high quality educational and training model that will Create the Change-Makers of the future – artists who are articulate and motivated ,alive and curious.

By responding to these challenges now, we can make a difference by showing students that they can have a future within the creative industries no matter who they are.

The post is full time, 35 hours per week. The successful post holder will need to be flexible with regard to working arrangements. We offer 35 days' holiday per annum plus Bank Holidays, a pension scheme and access to personal development.

INTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD ON 9th April 2021

  8. We are disposing of our stock of Strand Prelude profiles, both the 16/30 and 28/40 versions. There are at least 6 of each, in fairly poor condition, but possibly useful for spares. I will confirm numbers when I next go to campus.

Some are missing shutters, and all are missing colour frames.

    DM me if interested.

  9. We have some MAC700 units, disassembled, that I need to dispose of.

Before they get chucked in the skip, would anybody like them? There were a number of units, all had various errors, that have been broken down into parts. There will also be some dual flight cases available.

Please DM me if you are interested. It may take a while for me to respond as I am not on Blue Room much anymore.

  11. I tried to buy some scaffold castors from Flints the other day, and they don’t stock the plug type 150mm diameter 500kg SWL nylon castors. Which is a shame.

Does anyone have any real world experience of the scaffold castors from the likes of Ross Handling, Scaffolding Direct or Castors Online? They all look like they have a shorter plug than the Flints ones and it is not apparent if they have the sprung ball that (sometimes) prevents the castor from falling out of the sleeve.

They are for a stack of 8’x3’ decks.

  12. £1500? Ouch! You can get a 5 user Eartec UltraLITE HD setup from ShowComms for £750 here. From what I can tell you'd only need the setup you've linked to if you want more than five wireless headsets.

Having just had conversations with the supplier it does appear that if we want to link into our existing wired system (which we would) then we DO have to look at buying a hub in the package...

There is also an adaptor required to merge CC/TP wired systems with the wireless group.
  13. I need to buy a decent self levelling laser for the next show in, does anyone have any recommendations?

For rigging purposes? You want a vertical dot, not a horizontal line?

The Topcon PLS3 has been the 'industry standard' for a good few years. Sadly, since their buy-out by Fluke the design has recently changed and the new one is rather bulky.

If you think you'll be needing a 'proper' one any time soon, I would try to snap up one of the 'original' PLS3's while they are still (just about) available - they're no longer being made so when existing stocks run out that's it, they're gone! (UK Rigging still have a few red ones in stock.)

If you're just wanting a relatively cheap one that'll do: Stanley SPL3

I bought one online last week for £80 inc VAT to have a play with. Can't comment on durability as I haven't really given it any use/abuse yet but otherwise it seems rather good. Not as good as a PLS3, but seems to be great value for half the price.

Thanks Sean, spot on advice, as usual. Bought the laser, pouch and with carriage was around £180 from UK Rigging. Tidy.

    e2a: correct ‘Autocorrect’

  14. We have bought from Le Mark before. Not cheap, around £700 per 1000, but customisable.

Ours are around 100mm clear with a 25mm white label with logo, bar code and unique number. We use them on fixtures and cables. The bar code is readable with a generic USB bar code reader into our Megger PAT420 tester.

  15. 1571949513[/url]' post='577789']

I have the dewalt red laser (had it longer than the green has been around). works great. not as bright as the green though. it has horizontal & vertical beam but you can select either or both

just because its mostly for 'fitters' should make any different. just stick it somewhere, turn it on and you have a level line to work from

Is that the DW088? It seems to be a good price online.
