  1. Your house wifi will still have wired ethernet to it - can you just plug yourself in as you did before.

If you can't plug in then you could use a wireless access point in bridge mode, which would turn the house wifi back into a wired connection like you had before, but make sure you get one which can do that, a lot of cheaper ones can't.

Also if you're using fixed IP addresses you'll need to make sure you don't conflict with anything else in the house.

Thanks for the suggestion. The house router is several rooms away from my studio so I could plug the DMX AN in to the router but would then have to trail/chase a DMX cable back through the house to LED Controller.

However now that I think about it there's nothing to stop me using wireless DMX between the DMX AN and the LED controller in my studio room is there?

Depending on your house layout, a powerline network system may be appropriate. Plug a node into the wired port on your router and use a combination wired and wireless node in your music studio room. You may also need a local ethernet switch if you need more than one or two wired connections in your musc room. I've used a similar setup where I've needed a wired ethernet system in a theatre/event space with no previously installed infrastructure.

That's a great idea. I actually have a Linksys Velop on my shelf, we bought it for the house but haven't plugged it in yet as the internet covers the whole house pretty well. However this would be a good use for it.

  2. Hello All,

I used to control my lighting system in my music studio using Luminair running on an ipad, which was recommended by a user of this forum and it has worked brilliantly.

I have a Chauvet DMX AN which was connected by ethernet to my Ethernet Switch. I also had a wireless access point connected to the ethernet switch. The ethernet switch was connected to my router and thus provided the internet for the studio. The DMX AN was sending DMX to my LED controller which sent control signal and power to 5 different RGBW LED lights I built from scratch.

I've now moved and want to use the same setup but I no longer have a dedicated wifi network and hardware for the room like I used to. I'm in a house so get my internet from the house wifi. So to use my old hardware & software setup to control my lights I would need to set up a new wifi network just for the Ipad to be able to get a signal to the DMX AN.

So I'm wondering if I buy a simple wireless access point and plug this direct into the DMX AN, will this give me what I need? Or do I need something between the AN and the WAP?

I'm also wondering if I can get a wireless DMX transmitter for the ipad and plug a receiver straight into the LED controller, thus I no longer need the DMX AN or the dedicated Wifi network.

Thanks for your time reading and to those who share their opinions.
