Bonus Arena in Hull are looking for a Senior Technician to join the team at the new Arena.

 

The venue is a 3500 cap multi-purpose venue operated by SMG Europe, and has already seen shows from the likes of League of Gentlemen, Courteeners, Catfish and the Bottlemen, and Jack White.

Key accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the technical delivery of events in the main auditorium and all associated breakout spaces within the building.
  • Assist the Event Manager with the advancing of events at the Bonus Arena, liaising with promoters, tour managers and event organisers.
  • Work with the venue rigger, assisting touring/visiting riggers in use of the venue grid and gantry systems.
  • Efficiently and proactively maintain technical equipment.
  • Manage events from load in through to load out, including management of casual and local crew.
  • Lead on venue 'turnarounds', including but not limited to seating and stage builds, conference sets, and other venue transformations.
  • Support the Head of Conference and Events Sales in the planning and execution of events as required.
  • Ensure at all times compliance with Health & Safety regulations and to pursue any training requirements needed for specialist areas.
  • Deliver team briefings and debriefs as and when required.
  • To act as Duty Technician on a rota basis.
  • To be a key-holder for the building, and be on call when necessary.
  • Manage constructive relationships, where relevant, with key stakeholders, contractors, clients, customers, and colleagues.
  • Devise, implement and develop relevant and appropriate training for relevant staff.
  • Any other relevant duties assigned by the Head of Operations.

 

 

Person Specification

 

Knowledge and Qualifications :

  • Minimum of two years working in a similar role.
  • Experience of working in an events based environment, ideally within a similar multi-purpose space with a mixed programme.
  • Knowledge of the local and regional entertainment offers and venues.

Skills:

  • Experience of successfully working to strict time deadlines with the ability to effectively prioritise a range of tasks.
  • Understanding of electrical safety related to live events.
  • Smart appearance and presentation.
  • Strong people management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills.
  • The ability to interpret and manipulate CAD drawings is desirable.
  • The ability to effectively manage own and others time.
  • Excellent organisation and planning skills with the ability to work flexibly under pressure.

Experience:

  • Experience in the management of statutory requirements.
  • Experience of working with staff at all levels throughout a company.
  • Proven IT and AV experience including MS Office packages.
  • Experience of maintaining technical equipment to a high standard, both proactively and reactively.
  • A high level of awareness of Health and Safety issues regarding production and stage production.

General information:

The requirements of the business are such that a high degree of flexibility is necessary and therefore some evening and weekend work will be required. Additionally, there will be occasions where the Senior Technician will be required to work at other venues operated by SMG.

 

 

This post has a salary of up to £25k, depending to experience.
