  1. The thing is exatly that. Almost all of thos projectors DO HAVE an offset above 100%. I need it to be 100% (at best adjustable with lens shift, in order to start the image on the floor with no or very minimal keystone. Anyway, thank you for trying, G. Just googled it. ET-DLE020 is the name, and it could be a solution. Designed for all WUXGA panasonic projectors. Sounds good, but unfortunately 9K $ just the lens, is far to much for my budget. 9K $ would be my max budget for the whole thing, if everything is very convincing. In addition to that, most of the compatible projectors are quite heavy and many airlines don't even take luggage heavyier than 25 kg (case included). This is also a top limitation. Thank you anyway, I'll check again. Maybe second hand or some kind of special offer.
  2. Hi everyone, I need a short throw projector to fill a screen starting at floor level, placing the projector on the floor. I've been looking for this quite a long time with little success: Short throw projector (0.5:1 or less)Minimum 5k lmHigh contrastAble to project at lens/floor level (ideally with vertical lens shift - alternatively fixed at 100% offset - Purist might say 50% offset, which I feel to be right, but I find that most people call this 100%)All the rest is less important FHD resolution is enoughLight weight and small size preferred since it will have to travel a lotI'v tried the PANASONIC PT RZ970 with a 0.35 lens, but it is mirrored throwing back over the top of the projector so even being 100% offset (the lowest allowed by the lens shift), the lens is quite high above the floor. and to fill the screen bottom I need tilting the projector quite a lot, consequently requiring keystoning, loosing screen size, and having focus issues. I've also tried the Fuji Z5000. Really impressive in its lens shift abilities and image quality, but I would like to look a bit further. This one was "just" 5k lm, a bit weak on contrast, quite pricey for those specs and somewhat heavy (12 kg + big flight case required). Right now I'm using a cheap "hacked" InFocus 3500 lm (IN128HDSTx) - But I need to upgrade, since I need more quality. The hack consisted in making a permanent lensshift. Since there was not enough space for moving the lens all the required way, I also had to tilt it a bit. The offset is perfect for me, and wieght and size are great for travelling around, but I loose sharpness in 2/3 of the screen and the brightness is quite low. I'm willing to spend up to 9000 € if it is really a great projector fulfilling almost all my wishes (7000 lm up, high contrast, lens shift allowing projection at floor level) Hanging the projector is not an option, since I usually do not have much time for set up and not always the possibility to hang it. So the easiest (and what I'm looking for) is to put the projector right on the floor. Any hint would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, BAAL PS: I tried to insert a picture, but I was not allowed. Not sure why.
  3. Thanks James,I had seen this power opaqued glass several years ago (actually I was almost a child). As you said it is probably too expensive and not very tourable (even less taking into account that we're living on an island and need to take a plane/boat for every gig abroad). Nevertheless I'll try to check out. Maybe our guesses are wrong and it is something like light plexiglas and not that expensive.
  4. Hi there, For our new project I want to "create" a separated space on stage that is sometimes seen and sometimes not.The idea is something like the plot in the link below. I would like to behave it as glass, but be able to do som mapping on top of it.1. When I lit the space behind it, I would like the audience to see through the screen2. When there is no light behind it, I woud like the screen to be as opaque as possible (like windows when outside is dark and inside is lit).3. I would like being able to do some mapping on the screen. I tried 1 and 2 with reflective foil. As expected, it works quite well for 1 and 2, but it completely failed at 3. Even though I did not try too hard. Maybe with a stronlens shift I would be better.I've seen Holo-Gauze and PepperScrim, both are probably too translucent, but I could try with conventional Gauze before purchasing any of these quite expensive screens.A quite interesting project I came across in this same forum was this one https://www.wilkiebranson.com/promo (but it is not really what I'm looking for). I would really appreciate any hints, ideas or tricks to accomplish that. Translucent screen
  5. Oups... I've just noticed I figured out I missed a posibly important advantage of the ethernet version (at least of the ODE MK2). It allows to store a show in the interface and run it wirelessly from a tablet (which is what I plan now) without requiring a computer attached to the interface. On the other side, it requires a router. I'll see if I can get some manuals and read through them in order to foresee possible networking/configuration issues. Thanks again
  6. Hi. Not being an expert, my thought was that USB is heavily depending on drivers and is more prone to incompatibilities than ethernet, since its protocols (TCP / UDP) are well defined and universal, consequently I thought ethernet would be the better-supported option in the long term (if any is going to be dropped). In any case, I guess you're right in that for most cases USB is very straight forward to set up, whereas ethernet requires some configuration. Once set up is done, is there anything else that could go wrong over ethernet? I'm not specially bound to choosing ethernet. It was mainly because of the recommendation of the Enttec salesman. So if you could elaborate a bit more on why you would choose USB over ethernet, I might change my mind. For now, I'm not planning to use more than one universe and I've used sound XLR wiring from stage to control (which is almost always available at any venue) for DMX usage. So the possible Ethernet advantages you point out, won't be a big deal. Thanks
  7. After being quiet for some time, I thing I might try the following: The Enttec ODE MK2QLC+ Software on a PCAny of the available OSC apps available for Android (probably TouchOSC)The Enttec ODE Mk2 is what an enttec salesman recommended for my purpose. The ethernet connectivity is surely superior to usb. The ability to output OR listen to DMX is ok, but I don't think I need it. I might end up with a different interface. The QLC+ looks impressive and it also has the ability to trigger video/audio, wich I might use as well. I also like the 3D visualiser, since it helps me with the design (right now I'm using LXFree as light design software wich is a bit frustrating after having used wysiwyg, but that was not on my own PC and I can't afford the license right now) .Regarding TouchOSC, there are some other similar apps around, but this one allows configuring your own layout, which is something I like. The bad thing is that I've read that it has some connectivity issues in TCP and that support is not responding to any queries (it seems as if not even the forum is available, since it requires admin approval, and admin seems to be missing). So these are my choices so far, in case anyone is interested. I decided to pay a bit more for the hardware (there are 10€ solution in Aliexpress) and go cheap/free for the software Thanks to anyone who replied to my initial query. Happy to get any further comments.
  8. To alistermorton: No, I'm not completely set on using OSC, it's just that I've got a bit experience with it, but I'm open to any reliable option.Regarding the "wifi" option, I understand your point, however, in this case I am performing on stage as well and having the console on stage is not an option. The alternative would be a long cable :-). Anyway I think there's not too much to be afraid of. Nowadays wifi connections are pretty stable. I'm not planning using the internet, just a wifi connection between tablet/phone and Notebook/PC. As long as the connection is up, the amount of data to be transmitted should definitely not be an issue. The other thing is that I don't own any console. We're always performing at different venues, so I need the USB-DMX box or as gyro-gearloose suggested Artnet-DMX box to do the job. Gyro-gearloose: Is the OpenStageControl locally installed somewhere or does it require www access in order to run. In the second case I think I would not add any innecessary risk to my setup. So basically I guess I'm still in search of a Lighting software that I can somehow access via wifi (could be OSC commands or any other), a compatible USB-DMX or Artnet/sACN-DMX box - and in case It's not OSC, I would need the corresponding App/Widget. Anyway it's a pleasure reading your comments. Thanks for taking your time. I should make a decissionover the next two weeks. I'll keep you up to date.
  9. @Dave m andalistermorton. Thanks for the info. Actually using the tablet should not be the problem. I could send the OSC commands to the PC using a different software (eg. PureData). The two things I need to know are: Is there any software I could use that's able to retreive data sent over an open port.?Does that software require a particular USB-DMX interface.Dave: I hope you manage to get the interface working. Could give me some of the package names allowing design/simulation (and control ;-) )Alistermorton: I'll check the MagicQ remote app. If it does what I need, it should be defintely easier than my workaround.
  10. For our next performance I would like controlling the lights life from stage using a tablet. The idea is sending OSC commands via any of the available android OSC-Apps to a PC, running a USB-DMX lighting software listening to OSC commands and send out the DMX control over the USB-DMX interface. So far I've no experience with USB-DMX interfaces, but I do have some experience in controlling mapping via OSC commands sent over mobile phones. In sight of the briefly described needs, the questions are: Is there any particular USB-DMX interface I should consider. I was thinking about the ENNTEC PRO, since it seems to have a quite good support and is widely compatible with existing softwares, but maybe someone here has a better advice. Is there any software (at best free) I could use that can listen to OSC commands? Could MAGICQ do that? Can any of those "controlling" softwares also be used to make a proper light design? Thanks
  11. I'm not officially trained as a light designer, but I do most of the light designs of our own shows (running a contemporary dance company). I also play around with mapping and other tech stuff.
