  1. there is a yellow capacitor in the base unit from memory which provides 24 volts for the lamp on relay. I have found these capacitors to be bad in the past, especially with ageing.
  2. we miss Madscan. NJD. and Abstract. Those were the days. A lot of research and development took place back then, I remember it well. I bought scanners from NJD the first stepper motor ones, they were too jerky for stage work and had to be returned, soon after someone thought of accelleration curves and all was resolved, those RC servo units did quite well though in theatre not Disco as they wore out too quickly.
  3. I had a load of these do this HOT thing, I found it to be a lack of voltage to activate the lamp relay, we changed the yellow pollyester capacitors on the relay board from memory and this worked on some of the fixtures but not all (6) good luck and do report your findings.
  4. Has anyone heard if this affects the supply of IC chips, and knowing that most Branded, and un branded lighting comes from this area, is there any news from China suppliers??
  5. I have used both extensively, and wondered what others think. Below are my observations. Magic Q pros are timed actions ie: press 3 then position , or fade out live. Not found a way to do that with Onyx. MQ still allows Enttec and other devices to be used. Onyx has slowly faded the cheaper options out. (although artnet devices do still work and are cheap ) MQ Timeline feature with audio is easier for editing than Reaper with Timecode. Onyx Manager although a bit temprimental at times is better than the execute screen in MQ. Even the button screen is quite user friendly. MQ patch seems easier and more stable than Onyx especially when moving fixtures around.

screen height is the issue. on my computer I can toggle between the two by reducing the height (Blue top band)
  7. I have updated from 1.8.9.0 to the latest version, but using the Audio DJ option in a cue stack, I place my mp3 in the audio box, I can see the file on the timeline display, I even get the new VU meters in the play cue box going up and down, but no music out put. can anyone help?? If I reload the older version it all works again.!?
  8. Difficult question, as Brian says who is going to control the lights, for bands the best options are DMXIS. or Lightrider or Daslight, the list goes on. Good luck making the choice. If you are already familiar with QLC then stick with it. All software will work, it is a question of what works for you.?
  9. I once had two identical dance floors 30 ft apart and ran a passive split (actually 3 ways ) no problems, never used a terminator. I know it goes against all the rules, but it worked. As my old boss used to say, you could run DMX through spaghetti if you tried hard enough. Rules are made to be broken.!!
  10. A cracked stepper feed wire can cause loss of steps, although if its pan this motor does not move, unless electronics is in the arm. dirty encoder can be a common issue
  11. check the cooling fan is working. if the head overheats the sensor shuts the RGB dimmers off.
  12. Has anyone here had any experience with this system. I came across this many years ago, but understand it's lack of popularity due to the expense. (especially as it is made in Sweden) That aside I went to a demonstration many years ago and it does control sound propagation to within a confined area. I feel there is an opportunity to make a budget version of the product and possibly built in amplification as chips are so cheap now. I also see over the years the design has changed to include larger 10" bass drivers. Very interested in your guys thoughts on this ingenious product.??
  13. 550's notorious for fan problems, the wire between the fans often perishes, if there is no or limited cooling the unit shuts down.
  14. The important thing to remember with a 600 is the sequence of washers and colour wheel discs., best photo the deconstruct for reference.
  15. Footnote, so today I tested a new fixture (different kind) and discovered the problem. I had the IMQ Twist 30 fixtures in fast mode, as soon as changed to slow mode, (whatever that means) they behaved normally.
