mac.calder
What sort of size are you talking about - container load? a couple of RU? - and what is your urgency? Ship okay? Backfill okay? If it is more than a couple of rack units, I would be looking at engaging a shipping agent to look after shipping. You will be charged GST on the full sale price plus shipping at the border plus any other applicable duties - unless 10kused is registered for GST. Regarding Escrow - both parties need to be happy with using escrow - if you are doing budget shipping on a slow boat backfilled that may take >2months and I can easily see a seller refusing anything other than upfront payment - however if they are happy to go with escrow, I have used JP Morgan in the past, they are well known and trusted. The process is relatively simple. Contract of sale is drawn up with an 'acceptance period' and a few other clauses relating to when seller responsibility ends for shipped goods etc, you then pay money to the agent. Agent sends a release to the seller, who ships the item and provides proof of shipping. Depending on the contract, acceptance period either starts immediately upon receipt of shipping notification or on the seller providing Proof of Delivery. If the buyer does not provide a reason not to release the funds at the end of the period the escrow agent will release the funds to the seller - or sooner if released by the buyer. Depending on the agent, they will either charge you an admin fee or they will just use your money on the short term money market to make $$$ - more often than not they do both. You may find (depending on the deal you get on the gear) that local sourcing may be significantly cheaper.
jjbarrows
one flight case, 1200x800x700mm , 130kg : at this size I'm thinking air freight I cant find this item locally (not second hand anyway - new would be over $30,000,) its a lot of money to wire to someone What sort of size are you talking about - container load? a couple of RU? - and what is your urgency? mac.calder
Probably looking at between $1200-$2000 in airfreight costs excluding taxes and duties. If you are going air, there is a pretty good chance the seller will be happier with Escrow - as you are talking a week or so, instead of 2 months. James Remo
10kused were previously known as gearsource Europe, I’m sure more folks would have heard of them under that name
Jivemaster
I'd certainly look into making the flight over and seeing it, having it demonstrated and seeing it packed for export. Maybe seeing it booked on the same plane home as you will be on. Have you found out whether it will work in Australia? And comply with PAT and emissions regs in Australia? Whether it's a legal import and what duty rate may be applied at your border and what rate of GST. Are you certain that the vendor is able and willing to export the item from UK including a zero VAT (our GST) Do a careful assessment of the freight charges, handling charges duties and taxes. If it's in a wooden flightcase be aware that Australia Customs may want it fumigating for bio protection Be honest with yourself can you afford to take the risk unseen of one of lots of things going pear shaped. Remember that a private deal leaves you without any warranty or repair support. Have you rung round a few international courier companies (FedEx UPS and others) people with branches in Australia who may have branches in UK? Get some prices and service times, get notes about package rules and customs rules.
