filmblue86
Hi I need vintage cloth sailor life jackets as a prop like this one. It needs to be yellow not orange. I haven't been able to find one in yellow. Therefore I plan on buying one in orange and then dye it or paint it yellow. Can anyone advice what the best approach is? Jivemaster
Cut up a pillow case, dye it yellow, add some tapes, fill with half an old pillow. If it's meant to be in service then let it get dirty just like the picture, If it looks too new it may spoil the image required Almost anything available from marine/a service stations will be orange. Andrew C
I'd be a bit surprised if you can dye a lighter colour over a dark one successfully. Will the audience know it is the "wrong" colour?
Jivemaster
Assuming that YELLOW is plot critical you could use spray paint to make an orange item into a yellow one. Painted canvas used to be a standard protection on pre 70s ships for all sorts of things. Of course a borrowed item is destroyed once you paint it.
