mm01
I know this will be possible but the issue Ive got is that we have no budget so Im looking ideally for a free option or a way to do it in Chamsys magicq (which I dont think supports audio but may be wrong?) We have a very small production that is currently being rehearsed and because we are dealing with disabled performers all of the "staff" are assisting on stage so no tech support at all (Im at work while the performances are on). What we need is a solution either on stage or triggered by a mobile that will start the music and lighting. Its extremely simple lighting, 4 LED pars flashing (no particular sequence needed) which then stop when the music file ends. Is there anything out there suitable? I guess my main problem is if there is some software that can do it it isnt going to be compatible with the £20 Chamysy USB dongle which means I'll be putting my hand in my pocket for something compatible, Any help greatly appreciated thanks. Shez
The media server included in the free version of MagicQ can play audio files. Should be very easy to set up a couple of cues that will start music & lights together and then stop lights after the duration of the track. Richard CSL
Unfortunately the old days of sound to light are long gone, and Chamsys as you say requires an audio usb device to trigger. Even midi is not an option with Chamsys without something blue attached. The only software I know that supports audio is Daslight, or Sunlight. but again you need their dongle to make this happen.I have been recently informed that Obsidian Onyx with Reaper audio live software and an internal midi loop would work, but very complex for your needs.I feel for your problem, perhaps a cheap audio triggered laser , or any Chinese budget par can in sound to light mode will probably be your best solution.Remember to muffle the mic if it is over sensitive, Elastoplast will help do this.Good luck. MarkPAman
QLab 4 will control 16 channels of DMX without a licence which should get something going with 4 LED pars depending on what they are. But it's only cheap if you already have a Mac and either Art Net, or one of the comparable interfaces from Enttec or DMXking

kitlane
Would QLC+ do the job? I've not tried it but it claims to support audio and video playback.
OddSocks
I use QLC+ quite a lot and it does do both video and audio playback. It's a bit of a learning curve setting things up, but is very flexible.

I use QLC+ for DMX mainly, but ended up using it for video projection after I was having issues with Screen Monkey. I just wish you could control the video level with a fader! J Pearce
This is fairly easy to do in MagicQ, either via the media server or more simply by triggering an audio file as a macro. See section 15.15 of the manual. You can then use internal timecode or just a follow and wait cue to stop the flashing at the end of the track's audio duration. You can drop an mp3 file (title must not contain any punctuation, just chars) into the first cue of a cuestackIf you scroll across the cue stack spread sheet you will stumble across a column called audio. dbl click to open files.put files with simple titles into folder.: Magic q. show, audio.when the cue is activated the audio file will start, you can time code after this event. using cue timings . shift plus enter. TC appears.
skinda0
What do you mean by video level? A way to control the 'intenisty' or 'volume' of the video. Just as a fader patched to a channel can control the intensity of a lighting fixture, a way of controlling the video 'level' so manual fade in and out to black can be done on the fly.If it is possible with QLC I would love to know! I managed to do it at one point but only down to about 50% and I then couldn't replicate it on another machine!
