  1. To answer some of the questions posed in the course of this thread. No, we're not. The set will need to return back after Fringe. The show will be touring it later on. The pods disassemble for this reason. Yes it's been cleared with the venue, they're aware of what we're bringing, and the stage is plenty big enough (we're performing at one of the larger Pleasance spaces). Although, we will need to lug whatever we end up bringing up a few flights of stairs. I think I've got something arranged with a local to me events hire company who will have an empty Sprinter on the weekend we're traveling up to Edinburgh who might be willing to help out, but will probably still keep looking into some of the other options that have been mentioned here.
  2. Hmm... This sounds like it's going to need a lot more thought than I've given it so far. Things were much simpler when I just did LX and only needed to move me and a rucksack around... Thanks for the rough notes on pricing both, that's helpful to see. Time to have a chat with the director about how much they realistically want to spend, and if there's a world in which we don't need quite so much stuff to be transported...
  3. I'm production managing a show that's going up to this year's Fringe and I'm currently looking for options to transport the set, which consists of two "pods" (2.2m x 1.2m x 1.2m) and some other furniture (table and two chairs, about 20 artificial plants), from London to Edinburgh. Has anyone found a courier that will deal with large/heavy items and ship them without costing the earth? I did look into one-way van hire to drive it up myself, but one quote I received was for almost £700! The pods can be disassembled into their sides, tops and bases which makes them easier to move. It'd all fit in the back of a medium sized Transit if that's a helpful frame of reference.
  4. Yes I've seen the selection of kit on Thomann, they seem to be one of few places offering this kind of gear. I guess it's not that common an application when a cheap PC and DMX dongle are available. If it wasn't going to be set up a good distance away from where I'm based perhaps I'd look at that option in more depth. I'm just not confident in a PC's ability to reliably just boot up and start running a show without the end user having to do anything, and I don't want to tie myself to a month's worth of phone calls to troubleshoot issues... It looks like the route I'm going down is to use a single universe StairVille unit. If it's of interest to anyone, I'll post back some results once I have them.
  5. Using my own Avo Pearl. Once it's set up and recorded I can take the Pearl away and leave the recorder running with the show backed up to an SD card for security. Unless I've misunderstood how the recorder functions.
  6. This is for a bar rather than a nightclub. So it really just needs to be a case of switching it on and leaving it do its own thing. Hence my comparison to the Masterpiece Replay. No operator involved at all. I'm looking at 1U DMX recorders on Thomann at the moment, they're sitting around the £150 mark.
  7. Is the QuickQ series any good for movers? I was under the impression it was a basic system for a few LEDs and some generics, but I'm not that up to speed with the ChamSys stuff so could be wrong. I haven't gotten on well with the MagicQ software in the past... Just looked up the price of a QuickQ rack and I don't think the client will go for a ~£2k playback solution... I'm thinking more the £100 - £250 price range.
  8. Hi all, I've been asked to source and program a controller for an install of about 40 moving lights. Something similar to a Masterpiece Replay unit but newer would be ideal. I need 2 universes of control so it either needs to have 2 universes natively, or be multiple units slaved together. I'd rather not go with a PC based solution as I can only see that being a world of pain for troubleshooting. Ideally I'd like to program it once, set it up at the venue and leave it to run with occaisional maintenance as necessary. Does anybody know of any products available on the market that would be suitable? The simpler the better. Thanks in advance.
  9. We can store it for a while (We've had it stored under the seats for this long, a bit longer won't make much difference!). If it's easier you can email me at "abevan@hillsroad.ac.uk" to arrange collection.
  10. Yes, we still have the Express and the Strand 520i that followed it sitting in the basement. We're currently using an ETC Ion classic as our main console. We've just had a load of work done to get hard power up to the grid and buy some LED Fresnels. We installed a new sound system last year, so can't really compare the acoustics, but it's pretty good now.
  11. I'm afraid I can't deliver it anywhere. But if someone can collect that's doable. The power supply, DMX card and socapex outputs have all been re-homed, but the rest of the desk is still up for grabs. Yes it's the desk from Hills Rd. Finally getting round to clearing out the years of old tech with all the down time!
  12. Hi all, I've been going through my theatre's stock of old equipment and trying to make headway with selling/scrapping various items. One of these is a Zero88 Sirius 48 lighting desk that's currently BER, as it needs more TLC than I've got the time to give it. It's got the DMX output card and the dual 37-pin socapex outputs fitted. It's in cosmetically reasonable shape, but the internal batteries have leaked and the grand master fader is dead. I think I've even got a quite tatty dust cover for it. Is it of any use to anyone? If so it's yours if you can collect from the center of Cambridge. Otherwise it's destined for the scrap pile as we've got 3 other lighting desks on site which all work. Cheers.
